“Friendship is a sheltering tree.”--- Samuel Taylor Coleridge

“Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos - the trees, the clouds, everything.” ---Thich Nhat Hanh

“When planning for a year, plant corn. When planning for a decade, plant trees. When planning for life, train and educate people.”---Chinese Proverb

“The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers, but for the wide world's joy.---Henry Ward Beecher

Arbor Day was started by J. Sterling Morton, who had moved his family from Detroit to Nebraska in the mid 1800’s.  He and his fellow pioneers missed the trees they had back home. Even more importantly, they needed them as windbreakers to keep the soil in place, also for fuel and building materials and as shade from the sun.

As the editor of the local paper he promoted tree planting and proposed a tree-planting holiday in Nebraska to be called Arbor Day.  In time Arbor Day was proclaimed a National Holiday and celebrated the last Friday of April (April 24, this year).  As an aside, some states also have their own Arbor Day at other times of the year.

Now, it’s time to get your free trees. You can plant them yourself, have them sent to someone as a gift or designate them to be planted in a National Forest.  Plus you get several other free gifts at:
