SATELLITE IMAGES OF THE ALPHABET

A grandfather was walking through his yard when he heard his granddaughter repeating the alphabet in a tone of voice that sounded like a prayer. He asked her what she was doing. The little girl explained: "I'm praying, but I can't think of exactly the right words, so I'm just saying all the letters, and God will put them together for me, because He knows what I'm thinking."  ---Charles B. Vaughan

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/ j" anomali wonse and for all.

Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli.

Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

HAPPY MAY DAY!!  I hope someone left a basket of flowers on your doorknob this morning, rang your bell and ran so you had a great surprise today.

Now, back to the alphabet. I love that Mark Twain can have us reading what appears at first glance to be a foreign language within two paragraphs.  I hope you also enjoy the effort and perseverance of Rhett Dashwood a gentleman from Australia who was able to find all 26 letters of the alphabet using Google’s satellite map search and was able to find them all within his home state of Victoria.

If you would like to see a wider view of the area of each letter you can also go to  http://rhettdashwood.com.au/#16575  to access the link to each letters satellite map and see the wider area.   He has been working on this project since October of 2008 in his spare time and did recently have help finding the last letter “y”.
