Simplify, simplify, simplify

For the past few months I have been telling people a message that God has put on my heart. That is to “Simplify, simplify, simplify!”

I know people who have so much clutter in their lives it is a wonder that they want to get up in the morning.  Clutter on the tables, chairs, cabinets, desks, yard, all over!  They want everything right at hand but then they can not find it because of the clutter.

I’m not implying that I don’t have clutter, because I certainly do!

But when I think of all this stuff around me I usually get busy and give it away. How much stuff do we actually need anyway?

I work with battered wives and families who usually leave their homes with nothing more than the clothing on their backs.  I am sure each of us can fill an apartment with things we really do not need.

Good places to donate your items are thrift shops connected with a charity.  Whatever they do not sell for very little, they give away to the needy or send away to those hit by a catastrophe.

Trucks are leaving communities every day from churches, police stations and firehouses. Check in your community or call social services for families in need and where you could drop things off.  Some, like Salvation Army, will arrange to pick up items in certain areas.

Another way we should all simplify is getting rid of all negative thoughts and emotions. This seems to be much harder than getting rid of things. Many people hold on to thoughts that bog them down. Practicing “An attitude of gratitude” can change that in a few days.

I meet people in all walks of life… some rich, many poor and with health issues. Those that seem the happiest are those who live a simple life uncomplicated with stuff.

Simplify, simplify, simplify is my mantra for this month.

Be blessed with less… and be a blessing to others.
