God Given Daisies — by Carole Devecka
Make this
This time of year too many people are stressed out. I see it all around me. They seem to forget this is the season to be thankful, spreading, peace, love, joy, and sharing what we have––whatever that is.
What happened to trying to create the simplicity of the Norman Rockwell scenes depicted on the cards we send out? I usually pick the ones I can envision myself in, and then with a smile, I send them out hoping the people receiving them will feel the same way.
For the sake of the children growing up today, let’s go back to keeping life simple and uncomplicated.
I do gift wrapping at the mall for Helping Hands Loving Hearts, a charity which helps families with children suffering with a catastrophic illness. Some people have been devastated by the loss of their jobs this year, and yet I watch them buying expensive gifts and toys. I hope I can give them some assurance by offering my prayers and my help. It doesn’t cost anything to give of yourself and the gifts you get in return are priceless.
This year, when pressed for time and money, think about giving something simple.
A little note of how much you care and appreciate someone will warm their heart more that a cashmere sweater. And if it makes you feel better, re-gifting is OK too. You can include a note saying that this is something you loved for a long time and because you have such feelings for it, you wanted to share it with them.
I also donate unwanted items to charity thrift stores, so people with very little income can buy for their loved ones.
One church I am involved with
does a Blessing
Make this a holiday season of “Sharing and Caring.” Give gifts from your helping hands and loving hearts.
Have a wonderful holiday season filled with gratitude and love.
