DiscipleS of Peace

Many times during the holiday season we see notes, cards and music saying “Peace on Earth” or “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” To accomplish “Peace on Earth” we each must do our part. We must become Disciples of Peace.

We can begin with those around us daily. Do we bring harmony wherever we are? Do people feel safe in our presence or do they feel threatened in some way? Are we accepting of different beliefs and opinions? Or do we cut people off, before they have a chance to express themselves?

In order to have a peaceful co-existence, each side must feel like they are understood and that their feelings matter. You don’t have to agree with what they say or do. But, in some fashion, you must allow them to have and share their own opinions.

To gain respect for your feelings and opinions, you must show respect for others. Again, this doesn’t mean you agree with them. You are entitled to your own feelings and opinions. When you come from a place of love in your heart, seeing the other person as they are will become easier the more you practice.

My wish for everyone in 2009 is that each of us learns to see and treat each other from a place of love in our heart and that we become “Disciples of Peace”

Knowing God’s love for each of us, and all of man kind, makes this task easier. May His love and peace be with you as you face this coming year.
