God Given Daisies — by Carole Devecka
Silence
They often say “Silence is
Golden” and I believe that to be true.
In this hectic world, with so
much going on every day, how much silence do we really have? Even when we sit in silence in our home, it can
soon get interrupted by sounds from the outside. Sound from cars or garbage
trucks, going to or doing their jobs. Then
there are the wonderful sounds of the birds chirping as if to say, “Here I am, look
at me!”
Many people do not like silence;
they feel uncomfortable when silence surrounds them. They may put on the T.V.
or music to distract them. I often wonder if people are afraid of being with
themselves or of being alone with their thoughts.
To me “Silence is Golden.” I do
not get enough of it. But when I do, it
seems to drench me like warm water flowing all over me. Or, like the warmth of
sunlight when you are sitting near a window.
Silence is soothing. It is
peaceful. It is my time alone with just me and God.
Sometimes the only silent time
is in the middle of the night or very early in the morning. A half
hour of silence or sunlight rejuvenates me like eight hours of sleep, (that I
never get) so I cherish my time in Silence or Sunlight even more. When I have both at the same time, it is
almost euphoric.
As we approach spring, try a
little “Silence and Sunlight” and let us know how it makes you feel.
Enjoy every moment!
