God Given Daisies             — by Carole Devecka

During the holiday season we see more signs, photos and sayings about peace. . .  "Let there be peace on earth," or just "Peace."

We also hear one of my favorite songs "Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin with Me."   It’s a familiar song written in 1955 by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller, a husband and wife song writing team.

They wrote it for a high school rally in California. The teenagers who attended the rally were of different nationalities, colors, and religions.  All wound up at the end of the day, locked arm in arm singing this song.

I wonder if anyone knew then how meaningful that day, and this song in particular, would be.

The lyrics are thought provoking, inspiring, and yet haunting, leaving the listener with a new sense of responsibility to make the world a better place.

To live in peace we must be at peace with ourselves, our families, our neighbors, our communities, our nation (one nation under God) and the entire world. Yes, it does begin with each one of us.

There are many beautiful versions of this song on You-Tube. Here are the words…

"Let There Be Peace on Earth and Let It Begin with Me"
— By Jill Jackson and Sy Miller

Let there be peace on Earth

And let it begin with me

Let there be peace on Earth

The peace that was meant to be

With God as our Father

United all are we

Let us walk with each other

In peace and harmony

Let peace begin with me

Let this be the moment now

With every breath I take

Let this be my solemn vow

To take each moment,

And live each moment

In peace and harmony

Let there be peace on Earth

And let it begin with me

Let it begin with me....  And may you share peace, love and joy this Holiday Season and in the years to come.

May God Bless You All!
