Baked Beans

There are certainly people out there who go to the trouble of making baked beans from scratch but I'm not one of them. Yes, they are wonderful but just take too much time. The alternative is to make the canned ones which honestly, just don't do it for me. There is a third option which is very, very easy and really makes great baked beans.

All we are going to do it "dress-up" some of those canned beans. Personally, I prefer Van de Camps brand but I also buy Campbell's. The Bush brand seems to have a "fake" taste to it.

Preheat your oven to 325º. Empty a large can of beans into a corning wear type dish. Add 1/2 of a large onion, chopped and 1/3 to 1/2 cup of molasses. Mix well with a spoon, cover dish with aluminum foil and bake for 90 minutes.

Other variations:

• lay a few slices of bacon (raw) on top of beans before covering and baking

• add a half can of stewed or chopped tomatoes
