Give Purim Kindness to those who need it

From A Daily Dose of Kindness

Here in Israel, it is a custom in some schools to draw a lottery before Purim in order to decide which student is giving to whom mishloach manot (Purim gifts of food) in class. The outcome of that drawing is kept secret until the day before the Fast of Esther (the day before Purim), when everyone brings the mishloach manot to the person she/he was assigned to.

When my daughter was in third grade, she had a big quarrel with one of her classmates, who became her "sworn enemy" at all times. (Until today, this girl isn't exactly "her cup of tea.")

During that year, my daughter came home after the drawing and asked me permission to prepare and give two sets of mishloach manot. Curiously, I asked her why. She told me that she overheard another classmate saying she wasn't going to give another girl the mishloach manot because she was angry at her. "And so", concluded my daughter, "there will be a girl who won't receive anything tomorrow and will be very sad. Can I bring her something?"

Of course, she could.

That girl, who received the additional mishloach manot from my daughter, was the one I mentioned before—the one she had quarrels with and was her "sworn enemy."

I was amazed and very touched by my daughter's kindness and ability to stand above things at this tender age.

For me, this was the best mishloach manot I ever received.
