Another thing I found….a way talented writer from
I am all about sharing so here is one of my favorite
writings from The Wayfarer Tales…
The Black Sheep
This one's for all the "black sheep" out there.
Jimmy Wilson was a shepherd all his life. A year before he
died I met him and was delighted to spend some time listening to stories about
his life.
Winter on the Scottish hills can be pretty harsh. When the
snow came, quite often everything would grind to a halt. It would have to be
really bad though before Jimmy couldn't get out onto the hills to bring his
flock in. And sometimes it was!
After a night listening to his roof beams creak as the snow
piled up, Jimmy opened his downstairs windows - and the snow fell in.
He dug his way out and set off with his dog to see what had
become of his sheep. Hopefully, they had stayed still and not done anything
stupid while the snow piled up around them. Maybe they had huddled together for
warmth.
Other farm workers joined Jimmy and they scoured the
hillsides, searching. But it seemed an impossible task.
The morning was almost over when Jimmy spotted two little
black marks on the dazzling white snow. They could have been stones, but they
weren't - they were ears, black woolly ears!
Jimmy and his friends had been walking above the heads of
the sheep they were looking for. One little black lamb had moved to higher
ground as the snow rose. When there was nowhere higher to go it just stood
there until the snow that had covered the rest of the flock rose above its
knees, higher than its tummy, up to its neck, stopping just short of its ears!
He lifted the lamb out then they went to work digging out
the rest of the herd. By nightfall they had rescued close on two hundred sheep,
saving all bar one that had fallen into a stream.
If they hadn't got them out by dark another night in the
snow would certainly have killed them all. As it was they had only
survived that long because of their wool. It kept them warm and provided a
pocket of air around them to breath.
Two little black ears stopped Jimmy and his mates from
walking on by to search elsewhere. If those ears had been white, like they
usually are, Jimmy would never have seen them against the snow and he would
have kept on walking.
If you are a "black sheep" or if you know one,
remember, it's a gift that just hasn't had its time yet. One day, some
time, the thing that makes you different will be exactly what's needed.

If you liked that you’ll wanna see
what else this talented writer has shared on his new MySpace
page: http://www.myspace.com/wayfarerstales
While you are there check out the video he has up too.
It is the song You Raise Me Up sung by
Josh Groban. It is simply beautiful and
inspiring and symbolically represents (at least to me) dancing with God.
Until next time,
