A-Muse-Ing Inspirations:  — by Jeanette M. Pintar

Lesson 4

In the last three weeks we’ve taken action to begin a journey that will help us transform our dreams into reality, as well as help us identify the internal road blocks we’ll face en route.   We’ve collected and begun to read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, set up and started to use a Day Planner, as well as a Scratch Pad (for writing, doodling or jotting down notes)  started a Journal, and created a Master Plan with our vision for our dream and have broken it down into do-able tasks.  Last week we chose one of those tasks and fulfilled it.

Guess what?  We’re already beginning to make our dreams come true!

So what do you think of The Artist’s Way?  Did you get any insight from it?  How did your journaling efforts go?  Were you able to write every morning?  If you missed the morning, did you write later in the evening?  What was the experience like for you?  Did you learn anything about yourself? Do you think you’ll be able to commit to a weekly date with yourself?  Have you made a serious commitment to yourself and the fulfillment of your dreams?  What one task did you choose from your Master List?  Did you do it?  If not, did you do something else that would take you closer to the fulfillment of your dreams?  What did it feel like? Do you believe you can really make your dreams come true?

Let’s move on to this week’s assignment!

Week 4 Assignment

Use your day planner!   Begin by scheduling the following:

Read The Artist’s Way — Chapter 1:  Recovering A Sense of Safety, Pgs 25 - 40

As you read, look for the main points and underline anything that speaks to you or sounds like it would make a good quote.  (If you’re afraid to mess up your book, use pencil, you can erase it later.)

Pick and do at least 3 of the 10 exercises at the end of the chapter.  You can do more!  The more you put into doing this, the more of yourself – and your dreams -- you will get out of it.    Have fun.

Do the Check-In on Page 40.

Schedule, plan and take a date with yourself. Make it something entertaining, fun, relaxing.  Make it something you look forward to.  Guard your date, make it sacred.  You deserve it.  Your dreams deserve it.

Write 3 pages of long-hand in your journal daily.  Just sit down and let the pen flow across the page.  Don’t edit.  Don’t fix it.  Just write and write and write until you have 3 full pages.  It’s best to write in the mornings, but if you can’t do it then, do it whenever you can.  The importance of doing these “Morning Pages” is explained in the book.

Pick a task from your Master Plan and do it!   Just one little thing will take you that much closer to your dreams. (And yes, it’s OK if you decide to do more than one task per week!)

* * *

You may find you have to adjust your schedule to make everything fit in.  Good!  Put yourself and your dreams at the top of your list.  It might feel “selfish” at first.  It’s not.  It is, however, self preservation, self growth, and self love… all things you need to be better able to share of yourself.  You have to fill yourself up if you want to give to others.  Putting your Self first isn’t a crime, it’s a necessity.  Good luck!
