Howdy Folks and Good Day!

I saw an interesting commercial on TV yesterday. People were being guided by a GPS navigation system in everyday situations—outside of their cars.  It made me realize how often we wish we had someone there to guide us and direct us, to tell us which way to turn and exactly what to do next.  So often we wish there was a set of directions for our lives, a guiding map to the “buried treasure” or someone to whisper in our ear what our life’s purpose is and how to achieve it.

Want to know something?  There is.

It’s called Divine Guidance.

Or intuition.  At the very least, it’s gut instinct.

The trouble is we often tune out this divine guidance in lieu of other people’s expectations of ourselves, sometimes even that of complete strangers.  Obviously if someone walked up to us on the street and told us what to do with our lives, we wouldn’t listen.  But we do listen to more subtle programming which bombards us every day.  We see images of how people “should” look or act or be on TV, in the newspaper, magazines and books.  And often a part of us wants to be like that – even if we’re not.

Then we get bombarded by cultural and societal expectations… How much money we should have, what kind of car to drive (or even just to have a car), what kind of clothes it’s okay to wear or not wear, where we should send our kids to school, how to parent, and even what to think and say.

There are also a lot of self help books out there which tell us how we should live our lives.  I have to admit, I share an awful lot of techniques for healthy and positive living right here in SFPNN, that’s a big part of why I do this.  But my hope is that you’ll take what you need and leave the rest… not only with SFPNN, but with everything else in life, too.

It’s good for all of us to have role models and things to aspire to—as long as we don’t stop listening to our own inner guidance!   When we connect with God and our Higher Self, life becomes so much clearer!  When we listen to our intuition and learn to follow it, it’s like having our own internal GPS system.

The trick is to distinguish between divine guidance, outside programming and our own ego/fear thinking.  Making this distinction may seem confusing at first… especially if one has never really learned to tune in.  But once familiar with the differences, it gets much easier, and life becomes much, much clearer!

There are many books on learning to tune in to your own inner voice and recognizing the difference between Divine Guidance and Ego/Fear thinking, or what some deem your “inner critic.”   Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way is an incredible tool for getting in touch with ones’ higher self and learning to distinguish that which is for our higher good and that which sabotages us.   If you’re not familiar with it, it’s set up like a 12 week course of self discovery (recovery), each chapter including fun exercises at the end.  The insights can be utilized in everyday situations and the program can be done over and over again; each time you’ll gain new perspective.

Another way to learn to distinguish divine guidance from ego/fear thinking is to familiarize yourself with the different energies of the two.

And here’s a link to a Sir Froggie’s Pondering that can help increase your awareness.

http://www.sfpnn.com/frog4web/Frog2006/fp091106.htm

The most important part is really learning to listen to yourself and recognizing what’s good for you and what isn’t.

Although computerized navigation systems are a nice tool to have when we’re driving an automobile, the best navigation system through life is our own healthy inner divine guidance.

May you follow your own navigation system to the treasures within and map out a life full of meaning and purpose.

Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, Prosperity

2.      Humor: Thanks to Frieda

Buddies
by Maggie Stuckey

Grandfathers and 3-year-old boys are natural buddies. On this particular day in May, the grandfather was pleased to have the company of his best little pal when planting the vegetable garden.

For a while, the boy seemed to like it too. His small fingers were just the right size to pick up tiny seeds and drop them into Granddad-made holes.

They were a great team.

But before long the boy became restless and directed his irritation at the seeds themselves.

"What's this one, Granddad?"

"Beets."

"Ugh, I hate beets."

"Well, then, let's do the zucchini instead."

"Yuck. I really hate zucchini."

"Okay, buddy. What would you like to plant?"

"How about . . . doughnuts?"

Just in time, the grandfather stopped himself from saying there was no such thing as a doughnut seed.

Looking at the unhappy little face, he suddenly got an inspiration.

"Wait a sec. I have to go inside and get the right seeds."

Granddad returned with a handful of Cheerios. He and the small boy solemnly planted them in a special corner of the vegetable garden.

Weeks later, when the real seeds began to break through the soil, the boy became entranced with the tiny seedlings. He spent many afternoons helping Granddad water and hoe and watch them grow. And when the first baby vegetables were harvested, he liked them after all.

For weeks, he forgot all about the doughnuts. But then one day at lunch, he said, "Granddad, what happened to our doughnuts? How come they didn't grow?"

Granddad paused a moment. "Well, you know, doughnuts are tricky. Some years when you plant them, you get lots of doughnuts." He sighed sadly. "But other years, all that comes up are the holes."

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

If you're looking for something really different, visit Tom's webpage at: http://www.sfpnn.com/tom_r__oh!.htm

5.      Kindness Suggestion

LET’S SAY THANKS TO OUR TROOPS
Inspired by Chef Raven

Chef Raven sent out an e-mail introducing a wonderful site called “Let’s Say Thanks.”  She says, “Xerox Corporation is sponsoring LETS SAY THANKS...you go to the website, pick out a card and personalize it and Xerox prints them out and sends them to service men and women overseas. Pretty cool and it's free.”

www.letssaythanks.com

No matter what our opinions are on the political motivations of our current global environment, the bottom line is our safety and freedoms are based on individual men and women having the courage to serve their country.  They make sacrifices many of us wouldn’t consider and ask nothing from us in return, except perhaps a little respect and gratitude.  That’s something we all can give.  And something that can truly make a difference.

If you don’t believe me, read the following excerpt from the “Let’s Say Thanks” website:

As I was leaving an un-eventful Valentine's Day today, one of the mail clerks yelled "Adams!! You have a package!!" A package, I thought to myself. I'm not expecting anything. What could this be? I took the box into my office and closed the door. As I opened the box, a flood of joy came over me as I looked over the cards from you and the young ones, one of my co-workers walked in to see tears rolling down my eyes. I had never received a gift with this much love, packed into one little place from someone that I've never known.

As I thought about what the cards talked about with soldiers giving their lives and privileges up to ensure the freedom of Americans, it was nice to know that someone out there does not take it for granted. I don't know who you are, but you are truly a gift from God. The gift that gives me the drive to serve my country proudly. As you pray that the lord keeps the soldiers here safe and brings us home, I pray to the lord that people like you do not die off from this world. Your contributions are nowhere near inadequate. Please never forget what this means to a soldier. Thank you for your love and thoughts.

What an incredibly simple way to make a profound difference!  So visit www.letssaythanks.com today to share your gratitude and respect.

6.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

7.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

I just received a summons for jury duty.  As I was thinking about being accepted and thinking what reason I might not be selected, I thought about being in the music business, peripherally.  (I have no idea why I thought that might exclude me.)  I fell in love with the word “peripherally” and decided to write a song about it.  This is what came through.

Peripherally yours

I am peripherally yours;
That’s all I can be.
Because my very innermost part
Only belongs to me.
The me I am speaking of is the total One
That each of us represents,
That totality that includes us all,
So why don’t we all have a ball.

A few minutes later this one came through.

Joyful Singing Child

There’s a happy, little, joyful, singing child
Living in each one of us.
We can come up with plenty of reasons
Why we tend to get stuck,
And then we forget that every moment
Gives a new opportunity
To stay where we are or leap out in faith,
Not knowing where we’ll land,
But trusting in God all the way,
And leaving it in God’s hands.

8.      The SFPNN Link of the Week – Recommended by Aunt Bette

Sir Froggie's Positive News Network is proud to present
The SFPNN Positivity Link Award to:

THE MINIATURE EARTH

http://www.miniature-earth.com/

Man is heaven and earth in miniature.
— Proverb

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors;
we borrow it from our children.
— Proverb

We can survive as a population only if we conserve,
develop sustainably,
and protect the world's resources.
Silvia Cartwright

The latest survey shows 3 out of 4 people make up 75% of the population. [LOL]  — Unknown

The magnitude of the world can be overwhelming.  The massive numbers are really more than we can get our mind around, to have any real idea of what the world’s population is made up of and where we fit in.  It's hard to put things in perspective when the numbers are so large.

The Miniature Earth gives us clear vision by reducing the global population to only 100, while keeping statistics the same. The effect enables us to see the differences on our planet more clearly, and perhaps consider how our actions can impact humanity. Where do you live in the smaller community?

Let There Be Peace On Earth and Let It Begin With Me...
