Howdy Folks and Good Day!

This is our last week of SFPNN until the end of the year.  We’re still accepting items for our Christmas/Holiday  Special Edition!  It’s going to be a great one this year as we already have some very moving stories slated to run.  We’d also love to share your personal experiences and traditions if you’d be interested in doing so.   Please e-mail your selections to sfpnn@sfpnn.com with Holiday Special Edition in the subject line.

One other item we need is a really good joke or short humorous story to end the year with!  We have some really great selections for our featured Humor section on Friday but none of them tie into the holiday season or new year. So if you’ve got a great joke or short anecdote you’d like to share, please e-mail to it sfpnn@sfpnn.com with the words Holiday HUMOR Submission in the subject line.

Be sure to type the appropriate headings in the subject of your e-mail submissions so they don’t get filtered as spam.  J

With the holidays just around the corner, a lot of folks are running around like crazy, wearing themselves out between the shopping, partying and preparations.  We know we should take care of ourselves, but with all the craziness how is it possible?

Here are a few tips…

Eat Your Greens!

Make a great big batch of salad on the weekend or one evening.  Pre-pack individual serving sizes of salads to take with you to work or shopping.  You can still get warm meals or give in to fast food, but at least you’ll have some healthy greens to balance your body.  Greens are really important because they help neutralize the acids from stress, sugar, caffeine and all the other bad stuff we eat this time of the year!  They’re also loaded with nutrition, give us sustainable energy, and help our digestive track.

Water, Water, and More Water!

With our stress load increased and all the toxins of holiday goodies (yes, cookies, alcoholic drinks, chocolate, coffee, and all those other yummies are toxic), our bodies need water to remain healthy!  Water keeps us hydrated, eliminates toxins, boosts our immune system, and keeps us energized.  It’s also good for our skin and hair, as well as our muscles.  And if you stay hydrated, you’re less likely to get muscle aches or headaches!  Note:  health experts recommend 3 glasses of water for every one glass of soda, coffee, alcohol, or sugared drink!

BREATHE!

Ideally we can set aside some quiet time each day to meditate and center ourselves.  But during this busy season, that kind of self care often gets wiped off the slate.  If you can’t take quiet down time at home, use the time you’ve got elsewhere to do deep breathing!   Deep breathing oxygenates the blood, relaxes us, keeps our blood pressure down, helps our bodies stay strong and our mind stay clear.   We breath all the time anyway, we might as well maximize the effect.  Take long, slow, deep breaths!  Practice deep breathing for at least two minutes at a time while you’re at your desk, driving, and even while standing in lines!   Any time you feel yourself starting to get anxious or stressed, breathe…

Utilize Time Saving Services

Now’s a great time of the year to make the most of modern technology and time saving services.  When you consider how much of your time and energy it would take to do the same work, you might be surprised at how worthwhile it is to hire someone else to do it for you!  And by hiring someone, you may give them the gift of abundance they were praying for!

Hire a house keeper if you’re hosting a party or even if you just want your home cleaned.  Many private cleaning services will clean a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home for around $50-65.00, depending on where you live.  Often you don’t even have to be home while they clean.  (Make sure you have a trust-worthy person though!)

It’s also a great time to take advantage of department store gift wrapping services, grocery store home delivery services, internet shopping of all kinds, carrier packing services, and anything else that could save your time and energy.

I hope these tips will help you have a more relaxed and enjoyable holiday season this year!

Essential Email Etiquette
by Guest Author Dawn Angier

Mastering your email skills goes a long way towards forging a professional perception. Here are the Top Email Etiquette Rules for kind and considerate email:

1. Be concise and to the point.

Brevity is king. Don't make an email any longer than it needs to be. A long email can be very overwhelming and discouraging to read.

2. Keep your message to one topic.

If you have more than one topic to discuss, break the topics into separate emails. This allows the recipient to focus on one item. Also, the email message thread will be much easier to follow and look up if there’s ever a need to go back and refer to an old message.

3. Avoid long sentences and paragraphs.

Keep your sentences to a maximum of 15-20 words and paragraphs to 6 lines or less. Email is meant to be a quick medium and requires a different kind of writing than letters.

4. Use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Improper spelling, grammar and punctuation give a bad impression of you and your company.  Emails with no full stops or commas are difficult to read and can sometimes even change the meaning of the text. Use your spell checker on every outgoing message.

5. Answer swiftly.

Customers like to receive a quick response. If at all possible, reply to the email within at least 24 hours and preferably within the same working day. If the email is complicated and needs more than just a quick answer, at least send an email back saying that you’ve received it, and that you'll get back to them.

6. Create a friends list.

Mark associates, friends and acceptable email addresses as “Safe Senders” so they won’t be blocked by your email program. What is a Safe Sender List? It’s a list of addresses and domains that will be ignored by your spăm filter and will be delivered to your inbox—provided your ISP lets them through. Here are instructions on how to add to your Safe Senders List (for popular email programs).  http://www.notbadmail.com/Info/Whitelist.html

7. Do not overuse the high priority option.

If you overuse the high priority option, it won't be effective when you really do need to use it. Your message may also come across as slightly aggressive if you flag it as "high priority".

8. Do not write in ALL CAPS.

If you write in all capital letters, it looks as if you're SHOUTING. This can be highly annoying and might trigger an unwanted response. It’s also difficult to read.

9. When replying, leave the message thread.

When you reply to an email, include the original mail in your reply. This means to use "Reply" instead of "New Mail". Leaving the thread might take a fraction longer in download time, but it will save the recipient much more time and frustration in looking for the related emails in their inbox.

10. Read your message before you send it.

Reading your email through the eyes of the recipient will help you send a more effective message and avoid misunderstandings and inappropriate comments. Ideally, reading the email out loud will help you quickly pick up any unclear or emotional phrases that may be misinterpreted.

11. Do not overuse Reply to All.

Only use Reply to All if you actually intend your message to be seen by each person who received the original message.

12. Do not use Reply to send a new message.

A new message should be created by clicking "New Mail". Digging up an old message and using it as a new message causes confusion to the recipient. Copy the email address if you need to, but don’t make a new message look like a reply unless it truly IS a reply to a former message.

14. Use a meaningful subject.

Use a subject that is meaningful to the recipient as well as yourself. For example, when you send an email to someone requesting information about a product, it's better to mention the actual name of the product, e.g. "Product A information" than to just say "product information".

15. Don't forward virus hoaxes and chain letters.

If you receive an email message warning you of a new unstoppable virus that will immediately delete everything from your computer, this is most likely a hoax. By forwarding hoaxes you use valuable bandwidth and sometimes virus hoaxes contain viruses themselves, by attaching a so-called file that will stop the dangerous virus. The same goes for chain letters that promise riches or ask your help for a charitable cause. If in doubt, go to http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html  and see what they have to say about it.

16. Don't write anything you wouldn't say in public.

Anyone can easily forward your message, even accidentally. This could leave you in an embarrassing position if you divulge personal or confidential information. If you don't want to potentially share something you write, consider using the telephone.

7.      Sir Froggie’s Pondering — from Sir Froggie

EVERY DAY IS A HOLY DAY

Is your life special?  Are you blessed? Do you have something to look forward to when you wake up in the morning?  Do you cherish your Self, your life, each day?

Every day is a holy day!

It seems almost every month has a special holiday to celebrate… a day that has been deemed special, a day that deserves recognition, a day we see as holy.  During these holy days, life takes on an almost sacred feel to it.  We prepare for these days and look forward to them.  We cherish them and each other as we live the day with a special reverence.

But there’s something we need to know…  Every day is a holy day.

We go out of our way to make our holidays special and to recognize their importance.  But do we recognize the importance of all our other days?  Each day we awaken is special, sacred, a gift to cherish.  We ourselves, are special, sacred, a gift to cherish.  How often we forget!

Today, create a shift of perspective.

Today is a holy day.

Today each and every one of us is filled with Divine Spirit.  Today is a day to remember, to honor, to treat with reverence.  Today we are holy beings of God, here on this planet to live a life of purpose, meaning and growth.  Today, we have something to learn.  Today we have something to be grateful for.  Today, we are truly blessed.

You know what else?  Tomorrow is a holy day, too.  And the next day.  And the next.  Let’s treat it as such.  Let’s treat ourselves as holy and divine beings, filled with the spirit of God.  Yes, each one of us is special. Including me.  Including you.  Including the guy who cut us off in traffic, the grouchy boss, or the policeman who wrote out that speeding ticket.  Every person is a holy being.

Knowing each day is a holy day, and every person is a divine being, how will you live life differently?

Will you stop to give thanks more often?  Will you cherish this gift of life?  Will you know in your heart of hearts that you are here for a reason?  Will you recognize that today someone’s life began, and someone else’s life transitioned?  Will you treat the day with the special attention it deserves?  Will you be reverent of the little things like sunshine and rain, grass and trees, earth, sky, and ocean, and all living creatures?

Will you breathe in fully, deeply, knowing each breath is a gift of life?  Will you understand your own holiness and ability to manifest miracles?  Will you serve a higher purpose?  Will you wake up with something to look forward to?  Will you acknowledge that today is a holy day—and so are yesterday and tomorrow?

Every person is a divine being.

Every day is a holy day.
