Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to write and personally congratulate me on my ordination yesterday.  It means more than you know!  Your love, support, and encouragement truly confirmed this decision and I’m absolutely inspired to do my personal best at letting God’s Love and Light flow through me to everyone I interact with.  May he bless each of you in a way which allows you to see the blessing you are to others!

One of the most profound shifts anyone can make in their life is deciding to live through LOVE instead of F.E.A.R., or false evidence appearing real.

As part of a recent communications class, I had to do a meditation in which we pick someone we have an “issue” with and shine God’s loving light on this person and on our self.  We then visualize the issue resolved, although we don’t tell God HOW to resolve it, we just leave that part up to him!

While I don’t have any open conflicts with anyone, a past hurt in my relationship with Mark took me by surprise when it surfaced in my consciousness.  I thought I had completely released it and had forgiven Mark and had moved on.  Apparently, there was still something I needed to learn.

As I began shining God’s Love on both of us, I asked why this had come up, and what I needed to learn from it.  The guidance I received came immediately.

During the disagreement, I had trusted in something I FEARED instead of the LOVE Mark and I have for each other.  Instead of focusing on our life-long commitment to Love, God, and each other, I chose to believe the fear I had of him repeating a behavior which had hurt me in the past.  And because I focused on the fear, this issue was destined to come up again and again.

My lesson was simple:  TRUST LOVE.  Not the fear!  Love is the Truth.  Fear is false evidence appearing real.

As soon as I realized this, I felt my muscles release and the tension which was stored in my body left.  From this releasement I understood this was a very powerful truth, even as simple as it is.

It made me examine the rest of my life because I had committed to live from a place of Love at a very early age, before I even graduated from high school!  Yet, in this instance I let fear get the best of me.  Where else had I allowed that to happen?

I’m happy to say, not too many other places.  But I did find a few and was able to resolve them within myself.  And that’s a very empowering thing!

How about you?  Are there any places where you’ve learned to trust fear instead of trusting Love?  What would it take for you to fully trust LOVE and to release the fear knowing it really is false evidence appearing real?  If you could trust Love 100% are there any ways your life would change or improve?  Can you take a step in that direction today?

Remember to Trust Love, not the fear.

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

ENCHANTMENT ON AN AIRPLANE

We are all composites of so many wonderful facets of potential. We have so many untapped capacities for humor, for pleasure, for doing good in the world, for making a difference, for recreating ourselves again and again.

One brief vignette comes back to me. A few years ago I was talking to a psychologist, Dr. Nancy Bacher, at a conference about THE ENCHANTED SELF, explaining my work to her. She responded to me by sharing this little story which is now in my own words, but I believe captures what she wished to share.

Dr. Nancy was flying home from Colorado. Once on the plane she found herself without a book and nothing to do. Instead she put on the headphones provided and sat back to try to relax to the classical music.

Suddenly she had a vision of a young girl dancing. It was wonderful. She was feeling filled with happiness and eagerness as she imagined the young girl, so graceful and light on her feet. Then the music ended. As she listened to the name of the piece, still in a blissfully relaxed state, she realized that she had danced to this music when she was in a dance recital at the ages of four or five. Until this moment on the plane she had totally lost the memory.

So this wasn't just any girl. This was herself, as a youngster, full of delight. Dr. Nancy told me that she not only enjoyed the experience of the memory, but realized that she wanted to be in touch with more of these positive feelings.

That's what THE ENCHANTED SELF is all about.

SUPER SUNDAY

It’s still a week too early to know if there are going to be any problems with Super Bowl XLI.  But as far as I could tell, there was only one problem with Super Bowl I.

The Green Bay Packers weren’t green.  They were blue.

And even though I had never before seen a professional football game live and on living color TV, I had read enough Sports Illustrated to know that the dark jerseys worn by the Green Bay Packers were green.  NOT blue.

“Maybe it’s something special they’re doing for the Super Bowl,” my Dad suggested.  “It’s a special jersey for the big game.”

I might have gone for that had it not been for the purple-ish tint to Bart Starr’s face.

“Those colors aren’t right, Dad,” I said.  “I know it.”

Eventually Dad agreed.  Which led us to a new problem: what to do about it?  Since we had never before had a color television, we didn’t know a thing about tint and color adjustment.  And as usual, Dad had thrown out the instructions, confident that there wasn’t any problem with any TV that couldn’t be fixed with masking tape, tin foil or a sharp rap on the side.

“It’s probably a problem with the transmission,” Dad said.  He flipped the channel selector knob to the other station that was carrying the game.  Not only were the Packers wearing blue uniforms on this channel, but the grass on the football field had a decidedly blue-ish tint to it.  Dad shrugged his shoulders and sighed.

“I’ll get a repairman out tomorrow,” he said, resigning himself to spending the first Super Sunday afternoon watching the blue-ish Packers trounce the purple-ish Kansas City Chiefs, whose helmets should have been a bright cherry red.  It was a minor irritation, to be sure, but it somehow cast a pall over our enjoyment of the pre-game festivities.  This was the first Super Bowl, and we were watching it on our super new color TV.  It was supposed to be... you know . . . super.

“At least we can still see the game,” Dad sighed.

Just a few minutes before kickoff, my big brother Bud arrived with Craig, a college friend who hailed from Alberta, Canada.  I didn’t know much about Canadians, but my fourth grade teacher was from Canada, and she was one of the smartest people I knew.  So it didn’t surprise me a bit when Craig took one look at the TV and knew there was a problem.

“Why are the Packers wearing blue uniforms?” he asked.

“There’s something wrong with the TV,” Dad said.  “I’ll call the repairman tomorrow.”

Craig looked at the TV for a moment.  “I don’t think you need a repairman,” he said.  “I just think your tint is off a little.”  He reached behind the set and began fumbling with buttons.  Suddenly our color TV was a black and white.

“Oops,” Craig said. “Wrong button.”

A moment later color was restored – and perfected.  The Green Bay Packers were resplendent in their traditional green and gold.  The Kansas City Chiefs looked crisp and sharp in their red and white.  The field was green, the sky was blue and it was a Super Sunday, indeed.

It amazed me then – and often has since – what a difference a minor adjustment can make.  A pinch of salt, a slight twist of a screw, a well-placed nail or a tweak of a button from someone who knows what they’re doing can change everything.  The same principle holds true in matters emotional.  While there are some hurts that cannot be easily repaired, it’s amazing how much a kind word, a friendly gesture or a gentle touch can change our perspective.

And make everything seem . . . you know . . . super.
