Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Most of us were taught as kids if we break something, it’s up to us to fix it; if we mess it up, we have to clean it up!

Now that’s a pretty good rule of thumb because it creates responsibility, accountability, and respect.

But there are times when following that rule can really put us in a rut… especially when it comes to relationships of all kinds including romantic, familial, and work related matters.  If we believe other people have said or done something to hurt (or break) us or that they’ve really messed things up, it’s only natural to want THEM to fix it.  Afterall, THEY broke it!

Here’s the problem:  they may not think they broke it or messed it up, and in fact, may believe we did.  Or they might assume they “fixed” it with an apology even though we could still be feeling the sting.  Or they may not know how to make it better or simply don’t care!  In any of those situations, we can end up feeling the hurt long after the mishap happened.

Worse yet, when waiting for another to “fix it” we give away our power to the person who hurt us!   If we leave our sense of happiness and well-being up to others, we’ll constantly be in a state of turmoil because it’s not up to others to “fix us.”  It’s up to us!

So what do we do when things get messed up?

Of course it’s always a good idea to try to work it out with the other person.  But in addition to doing what we can to rectify the situation – whether or not we caused it – it’s a good idea to do some self nurturing.

Feeling bad about things only zaps our energy, physically weakens our body and immune system and messes up our thinking.  It’s so important to pull ourselves out of the funk and back into more positive vibrations as well as into a more loving frequency—no matter what anyone else did or continues to do.

It can help tremendously to keep a list of things which make us feel good…

Perhaps that includes reading a list of 100 things we’re grateful for.  Or a trip to the nail salon or the spa for a massage.  Maybe it’s hitting a bucket of golf balls, going fishing, or taking a walk.  It might be listening to a favorite soundtrack, soaking in a salt bath, reading a good book or taking ourselves to a movie complete with hot buttered popcorn.  Calling a best friend or a favorite family member might do the trick.  So could creating a fresh bouquet of flowers and enjoying their color and fragrances; and working in the garden just may perk up the soul. Or treating ourselves to a small box of chocolates and a cappuccino.  We might simply need to go home and sleep it off.

The point is to have a list of self nurturing things on hand so when we feel blue we have a starting point for picking ourselves up again and taking back our power!  Our happiness is up to us—regardless of what others might be doing or even not doing.

What makes you feel good?  What lifts your spirits and helps get you back to a positive loving place even when you’re upset about something?   Make a “pick me up list” today and keep it in your wallet for future reference.  You don’t even have to wait until you’re feeling down to use it!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

6.      GOOD NEWS FROM SFPNNers!

GREAT NEWS FOR GRAY WHALES!

From Frances Beinecke, President, Natural Resources Defense Council

I'm thrilled to report a big leap forward in our ambitious campaign to save the world's last unspoiled gray whale nursery at San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja, Mexico.

The Mexican government has just announced that 109,000 acres of federal lands surrounding this spectacular whale habitat will be donated for conservation…

The government made its dramatic announcement in the midst of a full-day telethon on TV Azteca, one of Mexico's biggest TV networks. The telethon conveyed our cause to 30 million viewers and raised $350,000 -- money that will help our conservation alliance buy up even more development rights around the whale's lagoon.

That's important, because our fight to save the whale's nursery is far from over. San Ignacio Lagoon is still vulnerable to plans from oil and gas drilling to proposed massive high-rise hotels, resort marinas and ocean-bound ships.

That's why it's absolutely critical that we press ahead with our visionary plan to permanently protect all ONE MILLION ACRES of land that surround the lagoon.

Thanks to the generosity NRDC Members our alliance has already acquired the development rights for 140,000 acres of communal and private lands -- and put them off-limits to industry and developers forever.

When you add in the government's 109,000 acres, we've now secured permanent protection for 249,000 acres around one of the greatest whale breeding grounds on earth.

Two years ago, such protection was just a beautiful dream. It is fast becoming reality.

What does it mean for the whales?

When hundreds of pregnant gray whales arrived at the lagoon this winter -- after swimming 4,000 miles from the frigid Arctic -- they found what generations of whales before them have always found: the one place on earth where their newborns can enter the world as Mother Nature intended, wild and free.

With your help, we intend to keep it that way.

Sincerely,

Frances Beinecke
President
Natural Resources Defense Council

8.      8Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The California Dreamer

SMALL WORLD

"It's a small world -- after all."

I moved into my new place six weeks ago and have been slowly meeting my neighbors. I am a relatively friendly person, so speaking to new people isn't difficult for me.

My downstairs neighbor stopped me in the parking lot last week to talk and mentioned he had a "rattlesnake" in the container he was holding and was going to set it free in a field.  I was a bit shocked and certainly not interested in meeting the snake on my own.

Sunday evening I was walking into my unit when I noticed that the downstairs neighbor working on his patio so I went down to ask if he found anymore snakes.  When I got down the stairs another neighbor called me over.  He and his girlfriend said "We met you last summer in Malibu at the house concert... you talked to us on the deck."

They reminded me of our conversation and what an impression I made on them having packed up my life and moving here to follow my dream.  The strange part was that I vaguely remembered meeting them.  Yet, they recalled most of the conversation.  They had noticed me in our parking lot and at first couldn't quite place me—until they saw me talking to the snake man.

We all agreed what a large area we live in and yet what a small world it really is!

We also agreed we all had made a new friend. We even made jokes about the six degrees of separation and the Kevin Bacon theory.  It turns out that one of the sisters of these people hosts house concerts and they will add me to the invitation list for the next series.

The moral of this story is you just never know what a smile, a kind word or a seemingly small conversation with a stranger can make in your life -- or even theirs.  There are NO coincidences and you just never know who or where you will meet again.
