Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Wow.  A lot of people had very different reactions to yesterday’s greeting… With everything from joy and excitement to concern I might be discriminating against those with Epilepsy or that I might have a very serious condition.  So I’d like to set the record straight as briefly as I can.

When I was 27, I had two seizures and was told I MUST take anti-seizure medications (or I could die).  The medications literally rendered me an invalid in less than one week’s time.  I could not walk, talk, read, write, spell, do math, or even get out of bed.  When I was overcome with thoughts of suicide I knew something was very wrong.

I worked with a doctor I’d been seeing prior to the seizures. Discussing the events which led up to the seizures, we realized I had a triple-whammy going against me… I was dehydrated, had low blood sugar and consumed large amounts of phenylalanine (aspartame), all of which combined to trigger the seizures.  When I suggested this to the neurologist the hospital assigned me to, he literally laughed in my face and insisted I had to stay on the medications he prescribed.  The effects were “all in my head.”

Fortunately, I ended up with blood toxicity, head to toe hives, and a temperature of 104.7ºF.  And I do mean fortunately!  Because when I couldn’t get the neurologist to return my calls, the Emergency Room staff told me to immediately stop taking the medication and to use Benadryl to stop the reaction.

I’m happy to say I have been medication free ever since. But it took me over a year to recover my health and some things have never been the same.

In the simplest terms, anti-seizure medications are designed to slow down brain cells from over-firing.  But when you are severely dehydrated or have low blood sugar, your brain cells begin to starve and are already slowed to a point which impairs function. Slowing down someone with starving brain cells even more is not a good thing!

I have friends with Epilepsy and know how they’ve had to struggle to do things we take for granted every day… like working, driving, and even getting health insurance.  I certainly would not wish Epilepsy on anyone but admire those who choose to live a positive life despite the challenge of that condition! They certainly have earned my respect.

It’s interesting to note seizures can be caused by many things, Epilepsy is just one factor.  Head and brain injuries are another.  In my case it was a combination of low blood sugar, dehydration and phenylalanine.  Yet the cause of 70% of reported seizures goes undiagnosed.

When I went through my ordeal I didn’t see how anything positive could possibly come out of it.  Yet I have learned so much as a result!

I've learned to trust my intuition and listen to my body.  I've learned to question doctors, especially if they don't listen to or respect me.  I've learned to be responsible for my own self care.  I've learned to have even more compassion for those who cannot express themselves.  (I know what it’s like to be Spirit inside of a body which cannot function to get the words out!)  I’ve learned to cherish my health and the things I took for granted before.  And one of the most important things I’ve learned is I have the final say and power over my body and my life... including what I put into it.

All of this learning has contributed to building my faith and skills in the healing profession.  It honed my ability to intuit others’ energy and feelings.  It made me realize we can communicate through Spirit and the energy of Love even when the body is not working.  It forced me to look for the positive in my life even during the worst of times.

I truly feel as though I have been resurrected and given a second chance in life.  I know I would not be here had I continued on those medications.  I am grateful for each and every day and feel incredibly blessed to be alive.

We’ve all been through hard times.  And hopefully we’ve all learned from them.  It is my wish for everyone to be able to leave the hard times behind and live each present moment filled with joy – even when not in the best of circumstances.

Joy is always a choice, as is Love.  Let’s allow Love to refresh our souls, rejuvenate our hearts, and truly lift our spirits as we enter into the Easter weekend.

This is a time of renewal and rising from the dark.  It’s a time for rebirth, celebration, and reverence for life.  It’s a time for resurrecting our selves and our dreams.  It’s time to allow the Light of God to shine in us and through us.

May we all find the Divinity within ourselves and others this Easter and every day of the year.

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

2.      Humor: Thanks to Aunt Bette

Today’s humor selection is dedicated to the Pintar Brothers

THE PAINTER

There was a painter named Wayne who was very interested in making a penny where he could, so he often thinned down his paint to make it go a wee bit further.

As it happened, he got away with this for some time, but eventually the Baptist Church decided to do a big restoration job on one of their biggest buildings.

Wayne put in a bid, and, because his price was so low, he got the job.

So he set about erecting the scaffolding and setting up the planks, and buying the paint and, yes, I am sorry to say, thinning it way down with water.

Well, Wayne was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly completed, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder, the sky opened, and the rain poured down washing the thinned paint from all over the church and knocking Wayne clear off the scaffold to land on the lawn among the gravestones, surrounded by telltale puddles of the thinned and useless paint.

Wayne was no fool. He knew this was a judgment from the Almighty, so he got down on his knees and cried:

"Oh, God, forgive me; what should I do?"

And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke...

:

:

"Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!"

3.      “Gratitude has been such a powerful exercise for me.  Every morning I get up and say ‘THANK YOU.’”

“Every, morning when my feet hit the floor, ‘Thank You.’”

“And then I start running through what I’m grateful for as I’m brushing my teeth and doing the things I do in the morning.  And I’m not just thinking about them and doing some rote routine.  I’m putting it out there and I’m feeling the feelings of gratitude.”

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

5.      Kindness Suggestion

DO NOT THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL SAY...
THINK ABOUT HOW YOU WILL FEEL

 By Rev. Scott Allen Russell

ASSIGNMENT:  Imagine yourself with a friend or other person whose condition has been pronounced terminal.  Do not think about what you will say...think about how you feel.

“It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.”

— Mark Twain

I learned somewhere around puberty that not everybody wants to hear what you have to say.  I would interject on conversations, interrupt dialog, and basically comment on anything I would believe myself to be an expert on; and even things I wasn’t too keen on.  Just because you have a thought, doesn’t necessarily mean you need to express that thought.  By the reactions and lectures I received, I learned when and where to speak up; but more importantly, when not to speak up.

As my awareness of my spirituality grew, I understood the idea of “presence”, and of being.  I learned how to BE with people, and not have to say anything.  The still presence of God surpasses all words.

Should the situation arise where a dear friend brings me news of a terminal condition the first thing would be silent treatment to reaffirm the fact that right action is taking place at all times.  I would know that the dis-ease was not who my friend is, and I would see them as perfect, whole, and complete.

I would be a physical presence of God as I sat, and I would feel Love.  I would feel Joy.  I would feel Compassion.  I would feel…sadness for the loss of the physical body before me, but peace of mind knowing we could never be separate.

I would feel and exude healing Love from every cell of my body.  I would hold their hand, and become in sync with their breathing.  I would know and hold the Truth as a presence of God when fear and separation might be all that they are feeling.

I would cry, tears of joy at the knowledge that God is all there is, and that my friend would be returning from whence they came…and that’s Home.

1.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

2.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

This song came to me when I was “shoulding” on myself to remind me of the importance of taking time out to simply be.

letting myself be

Sometimes I feel indulgent when I’m just letting myself be;
I feel the pull of worldly concerns.
But I know if I take this time out for me,
I’ll proceed much more joyfully.
Because I will remember that everything I do
Is to let God express
Both in me and through me, as I represent
What it feels like to be blest.

Right after that, this one came.

stay open

Let me stay open to receive
What is the next step for me.
Let me be willing to follow guidance,
Whatever it may be.
Sometimes I do not preceive my own best interests,
So I choose to leave it up to God
To make me aware of what I agreed on
Before I even showed up here.
And guide me gently each step of the way
As I go about my day.

3.      The SFPNN Link of the Week – Recommended by Aunt Bette

WHERE DO WE FIT IN?

“Awaken yourself to the power of your mind to make things happen.
Once you do the Universe will conspire with you to
work magic in your life.”   — Robert Sharma

Do you know what one of the most exciting things happening in time and space is right now?   Your life.    Whooooooohooooooooooo!
  The Universe

"I am always there. I am always helping. I never leave you. I was there yesterday, YeahAnd every day before that.
And I'll be there every day that ever follows.  I mean, where else am I going?”
The Universe

The beginning of this webpage contains some beautiful nebulae but scroll down to the middle where it asks, “How Big is The Earth?”  These photos gave me a lot to think about in terms of how important we really are in the WHOLE scheme of things.

The first photo with the earth and several other planets shows the earth as the largest.  I know we are only one part of the universe but I tend to think of earth as the center of the universe, everything revolves around us. Not the physical center that everything revolves around but as the most important planet in the universe.  And we’ve all known people on our planet who have that same attitude about themselves personally!  ;->

We ARE very important, as is everything in the universe.  But this made me think of a jigsaw puzzle, you have to have all the pieces put together in the correct relationship to hold each other in place.  This webpage helps shift our perspective from that of a single piece of the puzzle to the big picture.

After getting an idea of our real place in the universe I found it interesting to go back to the top of the page and see photos of different sections of our puzzle.
