Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day can be particularly challenging for many of us.   The reasons are greatly varied.

For Moms and Dads with young children, the stress of trying to get everyone ready and functioning while they’re trying to “honor” you can be a bit overwhelming.

Those with parents who didn’t quite get it “right” with seemingly more difficulties than warm, fuzzy, moments tend to have hurtful memories stirred up during these holidays.  Yet, they also represent a wonderful opportunity for forgiveness and a chance to see our parents for who they are as real people… not just our parents.

For those of us with Moms and Dads across the continent or even in different countries, the inability to go see them can really tug at our hearts.  Thank goodness we have phones!

For those whose Mom and/or Dad have transitioned into the spiritual realm, the tug at the heart is immense.  If only there was a phone to dial heaven.

And for those Moms and Dads whose children’s souls have graduated to the other side, there are no words which can describe the tug.

A long time ago, one our SFPNN readers likened the tug at the heart to a ribbon of love.  She knew that each time she felt the tug her Loved One was pulling that ribbon of love to let her know he was with her.

With the spiritual work I do, I not only believe that ribbon of love is a great metaphor, but I KNOW it IS spiritually and energetically there.  It’s not just in our imagination.  It is, however, attached to our heart chakra. Those “heart-strings” are very real.  Intuitives call these “energetic cords.”

The running theme through all of these scenarios is our need to love and be loved.  And that’s really what Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are all about.

Sure, we see the commercials and the cards and the flower ads.  We want it to be like in the warm fuzzy movies.  And we tend to compare ourselves and then feel sad because it’s not like it "should" be.  But here’s a little secret.  Each and every one of us has our own way of being in the world.  And we (this includes parents, too) have our own codes of love.

Author Mark Bryan wrote an entire book called Codes of Love about this and his realization that he’d been seeking love from his father in the form shown on TV, in the movies and greeting cards. All along his father had been giving him love but it was different than what Mark had been looking for!  It was in the form of asking him to watch TV with him.  It was in the form of sharing a drink.  Instead of talking, it was in the form of just sitting and being.   Once Mark realized this, his relationship shifted as well as his sense of self.

The important part of his message is that we need to open ourselves to the codes of love around us.  We may not have parents – or kids – like they show in the greeting cards.  (In fact, with a recent statistic that says 80% of folks grow up in so-called dysfunctional families you can bet we don’t!)   But we do have people who love us and whom we love… in our own way!

No matter what our relationship is with our family, whether we are close to them or distant, we need to find our own way to express – and receive – love.  This applies to every person, every circumstance.  It’s not about the greeting card or flowers, it’s about our energy, emotions, words, and intentions.

Some people are not good at expressing love verbally so they try to do it in other ways.  Others are better at saying the words than being physically close with hugs or kisses.  Neither way is better or worse.  We just have to recognize the intention of love across space, time, and other boundaries, even the ethers.  Love doesn’t end.  It just is and continues to be.  We simply need to trust it.

PLEASE NOTE: Trusting love does not mean putting ourselves in harm’s way or in abusive situations.  But it does mean we allow ourselves to acknowledge and accept others’ love for us in the way they are able to give it.  It also means we trust ourselves to love others – even if it requires setting healthy boundaries.

No matter where our loved ones are, no matter the form of our relationship, love is the healing balm of peace, the energy of joy, the gift of forgiveness.  Love is what we allow it to be.

Happy Mother’s Day and Father’s Day!  I know it’s not the same sharing Father’s Day with Mother’s Day, but the important part of today’s greeting is learning to customize our expressions and acceptance of love.  Why not share the two days?  We needed both a mother and father to get here!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

NO RESERVATIONS

Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table.

"Young man, we're both 90 years old," the husband said, "We may not have 45 minutes."

They were seated immediately.

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

5.      Kindness Suggestion

BECOME A HUGS AND HOPE ANGEL
By Marsha Jordan

Ever wonder what angels look like? Are they gray-haired women with dangling earrings like Della Reese in the television show? Or do they resemble chubby, winged babies portrayed in paintings? I've never seen a spiritual being, so I can't say for sure, but I have encountered some "earth" angels who are just as beautiful as any heavenly spirit could be.

There's my friend Eileen in Illinois who tirelessly keeps records of hundreds of sick children, sending out weekly updates on their status to a network of volunteers across the country. After working all day and caring for her family, Eileen creates beautiful blankets which raise money for toys sent to homebound children. Eileen may not have wings, but she's an angel in my eyes.

Across the country, on the East coast, a forty-something preschool teacher, Jan, shares the strength and wisdom she gleaned from her battle with cancer. Understanding the terror of facing this disease and the joy of defeating it, Jan helps others wage their own wars. She gathers them under her wings and upholds them, traveling alongside them on their journeys. A gifted graphic artist, Jan also designs web art for sick children. Maybe she's not a real angel, but to those hungering for a listening ear and a hand to hold, Jan is a gift sent from heaven.

In Oklahoma, there’s Fred, a quadriplegic who spends many hours each day typing uplifting messages to lighten hearts and restore hope to those weary of life's struggles. It's the tapping of a computer keyboard I hear, but it sounds strangely like the fluttering of angel wings.

Autumn, in Idaho, packs a lot of love into each box of goodies she mails to hospitalized children. She boasts no supernatural powers, but the smiles she provides are nothing short of miraculous.

In Florida, Cathie moderates a chat group which is really a lifeline for weary parents to find encouragement, bask in acceptance and understanding, and make lasting friendships. Though she has no halo, Cathie is an angel to hundreds of chatters who depend upon her technical skills.

In New Jersey, Terresa, a busy mom of two little girls, organizes fundraisers which pay for beanie bears, balloon bouquets, and books for sick kids who look forward to receiving "happy mail."

These heavenly folks are just a few of the 3,000+ members of the Hugs and Hope Club -- a group of the most caring, selfless angels this side of heaven. They are ordinary people, linked by the Internet, who are accomplishing extraordinary things through their combined efforts. The club is seeking more hope-restoring earth angels to join them in spreading love (and a little heaven on earth) to sick kids and their families -- one smile at a time.

To become a Hugs and Hope angel, all you need is a caring heart and the desire to share your love. To learn more, visit the Hugs and Hope web site at www.hugsandhope.org .

Marsha Jordan, creator of the Hugs and Hope Foundation (www.hugsandhope.org) and author of Hugs, Hope, and Peanut Butter, received honorable mention in The World's Funniest Humor Contest and received Parent to Parent's 2006 "Best of the Best" award. She's been featured on WGN television and Billy Graham's radio program, "Decision Today" as well as being published in many national magazines and anthologies, including "A Cup of Comfort."

Jordan, who has battled chronic illness, pain, and depression for many years, is known as the "Peanut Butter Queen" because she believes hope, joy, and love are like peanut butter -- when you spread them around, you're sure to get some on yourself. Her book, Hugs, Hope, and Peanut Butter is a compilation of stories from her own life, told from a humorous perspective. Her essays provide a nugget of wisdom with each laugh; and the stories are illustrated with forty drawings by kids with cancer and other serious illnesses.

6.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

7.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

Just being alive on these beautiful Spring days is enough to inspire me.  These songs came pouring through one glorious morning.  The answer to the question posed in the last two lines of “Joy Awaits” is “Yes.”

be filled

I can only be filled with the love of God
To the degree I allow.
The permission must come from me;
That’s what is meant by free will.
The willingness to be a channel through which
Love can come streaming through,
And go wherever it wants to go,
Anywhere that it wants to.

joy awaits

Joy awaits my recognition;
It’s always there.
Joy is available any time,
And anywhere.
That sounds way too simple;
I’ve gotta test it out.
I’ve gotta see if joy can be all throughout my day,
Including this moment right now.
I’ve gotta see if joy can be
Here right now.

8.      The SFPNN Link of the Week – Recommended by Aunt Bette

Sir Froggie's Positive News Network is proud to present
The SFPNN Positivity Link Award to:

 BELIEFNET

The real challenge (in life) is to choose, hold, and operate through intelligent, uplifting, and fully empowering beliefs.

— Michael Sky

The world is your mirror and your mind is a magnet. What you perceive is in this world is largely a reflection of your own attitudes and beliefs. Life will give you what you attract with your thoughts; think, act and talk negatively and your world will be negative. Think and act and talk with enthusiasm and you will attract positive results.

— Michael Lebeuf

Beliefnet is the largest spiritual web site. They are independent and not affiliated with any spiritual organization or movement. Their only agenda is to help you meet your spiritual needs.  Their m
ission is to help people like you find, and walk, a spiritual path that will bring comfort, hope, clarity, strength, and happiness.

Whether you want to explore your own faith or other spiritual traditions, they provide you inspiring devotional tools, access to the best spiritual teachers and clergy in the world, thought-provoking commentary, and a supportive community.

There are a wide variety of resources--articles, quizzes, devotionals, sacred text searches, message boards, prayer circles, photo galleries and much more.  Click on    Faith and Practices for information on 24 different religions of the world.  If you're looking for something specific, browse through the overview available at    ‘Explore Topics’ or just type what you're looking for into the 'Search' box. “

One of the most interesting things on this web site, for me, was “Belief-O-Matic  which lets you look inside yourself and by answering 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more.

The results Belief-O-Matic gives you is a list and the top score on the list   represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic, in its less than infinite wisdom, thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by this faith, or vice versa.

Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking.

Warning: Belief-O-Matic™ assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul.”

This web site has expanded its content to include current events but the underlying focus of its web pages is still Spirituality.

Let There Be Peace On Earth and Let It Begin With Me...
