Howdy Folks and Good Day!

A week from today will be the last issue of SFPNN until September 10th, 2007 as we break for the summer holiday to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate.

When it comes to living a positive life we must continuously choose it.  It’s one thing to read inspiring material or about being positive, it’s something else to actually BE positive and inspiring.

Our modern culture has us hooked on being entertained… From TVs to MP3s, video games to magazines, the internet to the movie theatres. Sometimes it’s hard to find a restaurant that doesn’t have a TV in it!  There’s nothing wrong with being entertained so long as we don’t get lax about entertaining ourselves from within.

Motivational speaker James Ray (featured in The Secret) said the best way to tell if you love yourself is if you can be alone with yourself for an hour without any other distractions such as the TV, radio, books, the computer, other people, exercising, working, etc… Nothing but you and your Self… for an hour

Even the mere thought of being alone with ourselves for that long can send some folks running and screaming.  But it’s a good idea to work up to.  Personally, I absolutely NEED time by myself to clear my body, mind, soul, emotions and energy.  If I don’t have alone time I get really cranky and feel pushed to shove.

I don’t know if I’ve made it to an hour of being alone with myself in complete silence and stillness yet (primarily because I keep falling asleep!) but I do know once I get past the temporary discomfort of feeling like I SHOULD be doing something, hearing something, speaking something, etc., there’s a sense of love and connection that kicks in, as well as a very comforting feeling of peace and relaxation.  I can feel plumb tuckered out and at my wit’s end, but if I lay down to meditate for twenty minutes, I’m a new person.  The same thing happens when I go for a walk or soak up the energy of the ocean.  I may be by myself during these times, but I never feel alone because I connect with something higher.

Even though I have to “work at it” by choosing to do that which will nurture me, I still end up feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and much more positive.  And that’s the whole point of today’s greeting… I encourage each of you to find those things which, when you choose to do them, refresh you body, mind, soul, emotions, and energy.

You might have to work at it a little bit.  You may have to experiment and try different things.  You might even have to create something new for yourself in order to find what works for you.  But please do look and seek it out.  Don’t just wait to be entertained and expect others to do the job for you.  We each have a responsibility to nurture our own souls and provide proper care for ourselves.

What turns you “on” to life?

What refreshes and rejuvenates you?

What charges your batteries?

What makes you feel good about who you are?

When you’re not reading SFPNN, what inspires you and makes you feel more positive?

How can you become an even more positive person over the summer?

If you normally allow yourself to be passively entertained (such as watching TV or listening to a CD) what can you do to become more actively involved in your entertainment (such as taking acting classes or playing an instrument)?

Take care of you and allow yourself to search out the positive within you!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

2.      Humor: Thanks to Tom R. Oh

THREE FRIENDS AND A FUNERAL

Three friends from the local congregation were asked, "When you're in your casket, and friends and congregation members are mourning over you, what would you like them to say?"

Artie said: "I would like them to say I was a wonderful husband, a fine spiritual leader, and a great family man."

Eugene commented: "I would like them to say I was a wonderful teacher and servant of God who made a huge difference in people's lives."

Al said: "I'd like them to say, ‘Look, he's moving!’"

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

5.      Kindness Suggestion

LITTLE ACTS OF LOVE
by Marsha Jordan

As I loaded dishes into the dishwasher, I sang along with the radio.  My grandson looked up from the picture he was coloring and said, "Grandma, there's one thing about you that I don't like."    Anticipating what he was going to say, I asked, "What?  That I sing all the time?"

"No," he answered, "It's not how much you sing, it's how BAD you sing."

I used to wish that I were a wonderful singer, so I could entertain thousands of adoring fans packed into crowded stadiums.  In reality, my singing can't even please one six year old.   I also used to wish I were a great orator.  I've always envied people who could speak eloquently.  I have trouble completing a sentence that can be understood by a preschooler.

I may not possess the talents I would have preferred to be born with, but I still have the ability to change the world . . . and so do you!

Changing the world doesn't require wealth, talent, or a huge investment of time.  Right now, you (yes you), with your current limitations and abilities, have tremendous power to impact others.

Don't believe me?  Have you ever had a day in which everything you touched went wrong?  When you were at the end of your rope, did someone speak a kind word or help you out?  Do you remember how it warmed your heart and perked up your spirit?   Small, loving acts make a profound difference.   Everyone longs to feel noticed and appreciated.  That's why it means so much when someone surprises us with a simple act of caring.  It assures us that we matter.

Discouraged people are everywhere. They need you.  Don't overlook opportunities to make a difference in someone's life. A smile, a note, or a phone call won't take much effort, but they can make someone's day.   Not only will your kindness be appreciated by the recipient and rewarded by God, but it will enrich your own life too.

Many folks say, "I'm just one person.  I can't make a difference."  If you've ever been on the receiving end of a hug just when it's needed, you know one person's concern is powerful.   Do you compare your contribution to a tiny drop of water in the huge ocean?  Mother Theresa's view was that the ocean would be less without that one drop.

There could be no mountains, if not for the tiny grains of sand from which the mountains are made.  Little things pack a big punch.  Encouragement takes only a moment to give but it delivers an important message of love and concern to the recipient, and it could last a lifetime.  Your empathy and time can lessen someone's load and make their life journey easier.

We may not speak like Billy Graham or sing like Frank Sinatra, but we each have our own unique talents.  Have you considered that you may be exactly what someone desperately needs?

Open your heart.  Show you care.  Share a little love.

She's been featured on WGN television and Billy Graham's radio program, "Decision Today" as well as being published in many national magazines and anthologies, including "A Cup of Comfort."

Jordan, who has battled chronic illness, pain, and depression for many years, is known as the "Peanut Butter Queen" because she believes hope, joy, and love are like peanut butter -- when you spread them around, you're sure to get some on yourself. Her book, Hugs, Hope, and Peanut Butter is a compilation of stories from her own life, told from a humorous perspective. Her essays provide a nugget of wisdom with each laugh; and the stories are illustrated with forty drawings by kids with cancer and other serious illnesses.

6.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

7.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

This song is a prayer of affirmation for the way I choose to live my life.

each and every day

Each and every day that I live,
May I make a contribution,
Whatever can be done by me,
Wherever I find myself.
Each and every day that I live,
May I be willing to give
Whatever I’m led to give
By the part of me that remains in touch
With the totality of all
That each of us is partner of.

JOURNAL OF GRATITUDE

and

THE ASTONISHING POWER OF GRATITUDE

To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.
— Johannes A. Gaertner

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.
— Dennis Waitley

Today I am sharing two LOTW with you because they are supportive of each other.

I’m grateful for all my SFPNN readers, Jeanette and Sir Froggie because I love to share with others the interesting things I learn; and Jeanette and SFPNN allow me to give.

I have been reading much about The Law of Attraction and many of the sources say that if we express gratitude for what we want to become or have before we   actually receive it, we will receive it even faster.

The goal of this first web site, The Journal of Gratitude is for one million people to share their gratitude with the universe.  I hope you will be part of that one million by including your gratitude on this site and sharing both your gratitude for what you are and the things you have as well as what you want in your future.

The second link is a wonderful little e-book from which I have I gained a lot of knowledge and many good ideas to make my life better.    I would like you to have a complimentary copy, it’s called The Astonishing Power of Gratitude, How to fix the 5 big mistakes that keep you from putting Gratitude to work for you.  It can be downloaded from the bottom of the page on the following link.
