Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Our nephew recently moved to California and commented on how incredibly beautiful the sunset was as he was driving out to Simi Valley.  The rock faces were both illuminated and casting shadows and purple mist from the Pacific Ocean filled the valleys and canyons creating a spectacular contrast to the glowing orange and red globe that was silhouetting the clouds and mountain tops as it settled below the horizon.

I must agree that California has an incredible beauty to it.  However, I’ve yet to live someplace I didn’t see or couldn’t find beauty.  And that says a lot because I’ve lived everywhere from trailer homes to a nearly half a million dollar condo!  Heck, if you include camping and longer than expected road trips, I’ve even lived in a tent and my car!  And I can honestly say every place has its own beauty.

Let’s do an experiment!

Don’t worry.  It won’t hurt, it doesn’t cost anything, and you can do it right in front of your computer.  We’ll call it an experiment in beauty.  The premise is simple.  Look around you and find the beauty where you are.  Make a list of all the things in which you can see beauty.  Include all the minute details of what you would describe as beautiful.

Before you begin, let’s first define beauty.  Put away that copy of Cosmo.  Despite the multi-billion dollar industries which exist to tell us what beauty is in hopes we’ll define ourselves that way and buy their products and services, we’re going to use a different definition of beauty.

For me, beauty is the God energy or life force in something (living or inanimate).  There’s a grace to it, it can be either gentle or powerful, plain or extraordinary.  It’s more of a feeling.  There’s a richness, a deepness to it.  It touches your soul.  How would you define beauty?  Once you get your own definition of beauty, grab the pen and paper and let’s begin.

How are you feeling right now?  Make a note of it.

Right where you are, look in front of you.  What do you see?  List every little thing you can find beauty in – describe it if you can.  Look to your left, your right and behind you.  Continue making notes of every thing in which you can find beauty.  Look up, look down.  Search your entire area and write down all things beautiful.

If you’re in a cubicle saying “there’s nothing beautiful in front of me,” then look at yourself.  Look within you.  Look at your co-workers.   Look at the picture in your day planner or calendar.  Look at all the faces around you… in their eyes, their smiles, their emotions.  Look out the window. Look into the window of your soul.  There IS beauty around you and it’s your job to find it.

Once you’ve found the beauty all around you, do a quick scan of it all again.  How do you feel?  Do you notice the rise in your energy and emotions?  Do you feel more positive?

For the rest of the day, keep that notebook with you and find as much beauty as you can.  Look every where you go.  And I do mean everywhere!  There is beauty in the most unexpected places… including YOU.

PS - If you really want to change the atmosphere around you, get others in on this exercise, too!  Then share your experiences.

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

5.      Kindness Suggestion

GET INVOLVED WITH KIVA

OK, folks, the coolest thing just happened!

I was ready to tell you all about Kiva.org.  You may have seen it on Oprah…  They support entrepreneurs world-wide who are looking for micro-loans. As little as $25 could literally change someone’s life!  For a lot of folks in the US and Europe that’s the cost of one person going out to eat. Yet for others world-wide, $25 could be the difference that affects their very livelihood.

Kiva showcases the entrepreneurs who are looking for loans and you get to pick out who you want to sponsor or lend to.

When I was testing the website link to make sure it worked, I noticed there were only four businesses listed as in need of loans.  Here’s the really amazing part—on the top of the page it said:

Due to a recent surge in support ignited by viewers of the Oprah Winfrey Show and readers of President Clinton's newly released book Giving, there is currently a shortage of businesses in need of loans. The Kiva.org staff and our Field Partners are working overtime to get more businesses on the website. In the meantime, thank you for your patience!”

Just think about what that means!!!!

It means that we all got together and did something to change the world!  Literally change the world!!!  We did it!  We made a positive difference!

Now you might be asking why I’m still including Kiva.org as a Kindness Suggestion if there are so many folks who’ve already responded.  The answer is simple… In a few days or a few weeks, there’s going to be more people in need of our help.  When the current surge wears off, we can be the ones to make a difference.  We can even make a difference in this moment because Kiva’s site is operating in real time.  In the few minutes I was on it, one of the loan requests was actually granted and three more requests came in.  This is truly an amazing concept and proof that we CAN make a positive difference in our world.

So check out www.kiva.org .

6.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

E-mail: “KINDNESS

7.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

Thinking about my finances and feeling less than prosperous, this song came to me to help me see how much more prosperity can mean.

What prosperity means

I give up my idea of what prosperity must look like,
And open up to something new,
Something I might have never thought of before
That’s waiting right outside my door.
The greatest prosperity I can think of
Is having time to be with me,
To let myself tune into
The me I’ve been and always will be,
To feel at one with all there is,
Part of Totality,
This is a gift I value more
Than anything on earth can be to me.

8.      The SFPNN Link of the Week – Recommended by Aunt Bette

Sir Froggie's Positive News Network is proud to present
The SFPNN Positivity Link Award to:

THE POWER OF ATTITUDE

http://www.powerofattitudemovie.com/

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a natural motivator.  If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, "I don't get it!

You can't be a positive person all of the time.  How do you do it?"

He replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can choose to be in a bad mood I choose to be in a good mood."

“Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.”

“Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.”

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes, it is," he said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood.”

“You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."

I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.  After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.  When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins.  Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter," he replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

He continued, "the paramedics were great.”

They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said John. "She asked if I was allergic to anything 'Yes, I replied.' The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'"

“Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.’”

He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude... I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
