Howdy Folks and Good Day!
For the most part, people are loving, kind and value other living beings. Yet we all enjoy the good things in
life. I don’t know many folks who would
turn down a brand new fully loaded computer, or the latest digital camera with
zoom lens, a new car, nice clothes, the house on the hill, etc. One doesn’t have to be materialistic to
enjoy these things.
But what happens when you must leave them all behind, pack what you can in your car, and leave not knowing if you’ll have a home to come home to?
There are hundreds of thousands of people facing that
situation right now. Not
only in
We think we know what we value, what we’d take. But do we?
About two years ago Mark and I had the chance to find out. There were several wild fires burning in our area just like there are today. But then it was different…WE were the ones who had to evacuate.
I remember that day clearly. Of course, me, Mark and the kitties were our top priority. How many clothes would fit, which toiletries, medications, food, etc. With both of us having home offices, the computers (which also contain the majority of our photos) were a must. What else did we own that simply couldn’t be replaced with insurance and that we could fit into our cars?
We took our instruments, especially our favorite guitars. And I took a few cherished pieces of jewelry that had personal meaning. The last thing we grabbed besides important documents, was a beautiful painting signed by both the artist and the remaining survivors of the Black Sheep Squadron.
Seeing the flames steadily advance toward our home and not knowing if anything would be left upon our return, I was surprised at how little we really needed – or desired – to take with us.
My heart truly goes out to all those affected by the current wildfires and other world events who, like us, didn’t know if their home would be there upon their return. Or when or even if they’d be able to return.
On one hand it was terrifying for us. On the other hand, it just didn’t matter. We had each other and the things we needed to keep ourselves going… which first and foremost included our love and our faith.
We were lucky. We were blessed.
We did have a home to return to after only one night. The flames were literally stopped across the street from our front door… less than 50 feet away.
That experience really made us stop and evaluate our lives. We always think we know what’s important but then something like that happens and we truly find out what matters most. If we’re lucky, it’s the same things we thought. If we discover our values were a bit out of alignment, well… then we got lucky too. Because we were given the opportunity to examine our lives and put things back into alignment with our soul’s truest desires and values.
How about you? Have you experienced anything which gave you the opportunity to see what you truly value? What was it like? Did you need to make changes? Or were you already in perfect alignment?
How about now? What do you really value? If you had to leave it all behind and only take what you could fit in your car, what would you bring? Why?
Are you living your life in direct proportion to what matters most to you? What changes or shifts could help you get even more into alignment with what you value?
Every now and then it’s good to take the opportunity to do a little life review – before outside circumstances flare up at you.
Here’s to living on purpose and in alignment!
With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

MY CAW OF THE
By Ginny of
My dad died of a massive heart attack at 73 on
I was finding it most difficult to grieve my father who was a bigger than life person professionally and personally in a community who had never met him or known of his awards and accomplishments in the courtroom or experienced the thrill of hearing him tell a story of any kind. He made people you never knew come to life by his sharing.
I had begun to find great peace in taking long walks often up to two hours on weekends. This was for my health and wellbeing but became a place I could pray and ask help to grieve, heal and feel my dad in someway with me now.
Much to my surprise on a walk I heard a familiar sound that stopped me dead in my tracks and I realized I felt GOOD hearing this sound and it made me think of GOOD things about my dad! Oddly enough this sound is familiar to most though not appreciated by most! It is the cawing of a Crow!
It was then I began using Crow as a sign that my dad was with me, saying “Yes, Ginny, you are okay and doing a good job in your life.” Cawing became my affirmation from Dad. I don’t hear a crow or see a crow on all my walks BUT am amazed at how often Crow does appear…especially if I ask Dad to “show up” on a certain day.
A neighbor and I have been training this past summer to walk in a half marathon. I shared my Crow experience with him and he said “Well, Ginny, there must be something to this because I have never heard nor been followed by crows on my walks!”
The Sunday before our event we decided we ought to walk together to see if we were compatible! Ha-ha! After an hour, I returned home thinking it was odd not to have heard or at least seen a crow on our walk. I grabbed a huge glass of water and sat down at my computer which faces out towards the front of my house. I live in a cul-de-sac in a new development so trees are few and far between. In fact, I have one tiny little tree in front that is the only tree for five houses.
I realized movement was taking place outside my window. I get up to check it out after having said aloud “Gee, no crows today. I wonder where you are this morning, Dad?” Low and behold in my tree are five big black crows as well as three sitting atop the city lamppost on the side of my front yard!
I was laughing to myself when suddenly, almost like in the Hitchcock movie The Birds, crows began landing in the cul-de-sac to the tune of 11 or 12 in total! I was stunned and laughed out loud. I phoned my neighbor and said “you have to look outside at the crows--they are just in MY yard!” He laughed and said “Ginny, your dad and his Sunday morning Heavenly Harley buddies must be dropping in to say hello to you.”
So, that is what I believed happened. Why not? What’s the harm in using nature to help you get in touch with someone who was special to you in so many ways while on earth? Now I can focus on just the positives that we shared as father and daughter. No need to dwell on what cannot be changed. Been there, done that, one too many times!
I have been blessed in learning to take long walks without my Ipod so that I could become aware of the sounds of nature and think how I feel when I hear these sounds. I encourage everyone to quiet themselves in some way at some time during your week to see where you are being “cawed’ to focus yourself… You don’t want to miss hearing a positive sound meant just for you!
Happy Trails to all as you journey forward!

I haven't written about my school/camp daycare centers for about a year and recently I was reminded of a true miracle during one of the hardest years I ever had to face.
Most of the stories I have written have been about God supplying all our needs at the very last moment. This is a little twist on one of those miracles.
Tomorrow's Promise campus opened at
The front entrance of the school was always a busy place with parents coming and going, paying monthly tuitions, talking with teachers, etc.
One morning at

One gentleman spoke up and said "We are from the
My heart pounded harder and I prayed "Dear God give me the strength to tell the truth and face whatever is coming our way!"
I said in a calm voice "Yes, you can close us down, but first let me show you what we are all about, and tell you what really has happened here."
I asked them to walk outside with me as we talked so the children and staff would not get upset. They agreed.
As we walked the property up to the new building where the drug rehab kids were, I told them of the saga of what we were facing fighting the township, and being unable to generate enough cash to pay our bills because the township wouldn't let us use our campus for what it was intended to be. With so many kids, we were forced to move them around to different facilities costing us much more money than expected.
They said nothing!
As we entered the second building on the property, we stood along side of the 50ft. indoor pool. I just kept talking about what we do, and then said the teens currently in the building were here after being in a drug rehab facility. The After Care Program here included counseling, alternative schooling, and recreation.
Just then, the teen counseling session came to an
end. The teens gave a group hug and then started walking towards me and the
