Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Happy Halloween, too!

There are a lot of theories about the meaning of Halloween.  The historical representation of it which makes the most sense to me is that this is the time of year when the veil between the physical world and the spiritual world is at its thinnest.

A more scientific way of looking at it would be to say that the natural energy  (electrical/magnetic) frequencies of our earth are more closely aligned the energetic frequency of the spiritual plane.   The ancients realized this and utilized the day to honor and communicate with Loved Ones who had “passed.”  At the same time, they wanted to protect themselves against unwanted wayward spirits so they made frightening masks and jack-o-lanterns to scare them away.

Many churches still honor All Soul’s Day or All Saint’s Day (November 1st) to this day.  Halloween or “All Hallows Eve” is the night before.  Although some people relate “All Hallows Eve” to evil spirits or the devil, hallow – the root word of this holiday – actually means to make sacred or holy.  So even though Halloween might be associated with goblins, ghouls and ungodly amounts of sugar, it is really about creating a holy and sacred time.   :)

Honoring the sacred means something different to each of us.  It might be that we honor God or we prepare to honor our loved ones on All Soul’s Day.  It could be that we choose to honor the Divine within each of us and celebrate our dreams and creativity by dressing up in a festive costume.  Some may choose to honor their children’s playfulness and take them trick-or-treating.

However we choose to honor the day, may we see the sacred and holy part of each one of us.  May we also be safe, joyous, and filled with Love and Light.   And just plain have some fun when appropriate!

Have a GREAT day!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

THREE ANGELS AND A MOVIE –from Gus

I took my friend Connie’s girls to a movie yesterday. The movie was called "Game Plan" and it was the best movie I've seen in a while.

There were lots of lessons in this movie. Made me laugh out loud and pulled at my heartstrings. My three little girl angels enjoyed it as well. And my choice helped me climb out of my funk.

I am glad I made the choice to move my feet and take the kids and myself to a movie. I was led to receive exactly what I needed.

Namaste . . . Gus

7.      Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The California Dreamer

CHOOSING THE PRESENT MOMENT

I recently had an awesome experience just as the sun was coming up.  As I walked out into the parking lot on Monday, my breath was taken away by the beautiful sunrise before me.

I looked up at the most beautiful expression of God's paintbrush I have seen in a long time.  As I drove into work on the freeway, passing my beloved mountains, the horizon just grew and exploded with yellow, orange and baby blue.  I couldn't stop thanking God for putting me exactly where I want to be.  I took it all in, burning a DVD in my memory.  The ride in set the pace for my entire day.  I had a great Monday!

Sunday I also had a great experience.  I had the opportunity to take a smooth ride down through the canyon to Malibu.  I have driven down Kanan-Dume Road dozens of times.  This time, however, I was a passenger on the back of a motorcycle.  Yes, you read that correctly. I was on the back of a motorcycle and loved it!

I was in awe at the nooks, crannies, and scenery I had missed all these months by being in my car.  It was a clear, sunny, warm, typical Southern California fall day.  I could not have custom ordered a better afternoon to experience my first California motorcycle ride.

I wanted to go down to Malibu to see how some of my favorite spots survived.  I was expecting the worst and to be shocked at the damage from the recent fires.  All the previous week, I had been able to see and smell the smoke, and honestly thought it would look like a war zone.  Much to my surprise, there was very little damage visible along Pacific Coast Highway, which is the main thoroughfare in Malibu.

It was very clear that the Castle I had seen on all the news shows was completely burned out and destroyed.  However, there was very little noticeable damage to the bushes and other structures along the highway.  I was most surprised considering all the news casts showing the flames and the number of acres that were burning.  The majority of the damage was in canyons beyond the highway.

What I found unusual was that it was business as usual in the main part of Malibu.  We stopped and had dinner at a restaurant in the Malibu Market and the entire business area was buzzing as if nothing had happened just one week prior.  People were out with their children in the play area, and the outside seats at the restaurants were full.

The reoccurring theme for me in all this, besides loving where I am and gratitude for being able to live here, was that I really noticed and enjoyed all these things. I was in the present moment.  I became very aware of my surroundings, and by doing so, I could take it all in and enjoy myself all the more.

How's your attention lately?  Are you living in the present moment, enjoying each and every thing put before you? Are you allowing yourself to stop and take it all in?  Do you notice something as simple as the sunrise, or how about a sunset?

Allow yourself the gift of being in the present moment -- you deserve it.  And you're worth it.

Happy Halloween and enjoy your week.
