Howdy Folks and Good Day!
Have you ever noticed some people are loving, calm, and compassionate all the time
while others always seem to be upset about something?
Which type of person would you rather be around?
More importantly, which kind of person are you?
Author and motivation speaker, Wayne Dyer, often teaches
that one of the keys to a positive life is to, “Stop looking to be offended!”
The first time I heard that I thought it was kind of silly. Who LOOKS to be offended? I look to see the good qualities in people. At least I try to!
Then I started thinking about folks I knew who always seem to be upset about something. I recalled their last conversations with me… “Well, he did this… And then she said that…” And I realized that they were, in deed, looking to be offended!
You know what else I realized?
Although staying loving, calm and compassionate during my interaction with them, I actually felt like I had been the one offended after we parted. I absorbed the negative energy they had been carrying and that upset me. Worse yet, I then felt offended by them!
Don’t get me wrong, here. I am not blaming the folks who chose to be offended because in reality I made the decision to listen to them and allow myself to be offended! It certainly was an eye-opening experience for me.
Now I no longer allow myself to get offended by what someone else talks to me about. (At least most days!) I do, however, offer ideas on how they can deal with their frustrations and do something to change the situation.
A funny thing has happened in my life since making that shift. When people come to me with their problems, they no longer come just to vent. In fact, if all they want to do is blow off steam and share being offended with others, they usually call someone else. But when they’re ready to resolve the situation, find insight, and move forward, they call me.
You know what? I prefer it that way. And even if they don’t take my advice, I don’t have to be offended.
With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

TRAIL RIDE
By Nancy J. Leslie
Mark and I arrived at our
cottage in
This weekend, instead of a
standard lesson in the arena, we did one of our favorite things—went on a trail
ride.
We set out early on Saturday
morning. Having ridden many horses at the farm where she works, I decided,
given the choice to take a new horse for my ride. I chose Buck. Buck is the
horse we take on rides with the most inexperienced riders. I opted for an easy
horse to help develop my skills rather than take a tough horse and have to
fight the whole way.
Buck proved to be a great choice
for me. He was easy. He confirmed to me that many of the problems I had with my
training back home aren't necessarily my fault, but the fault of horses that
aren't listening to me. (Not saying that I am completely without fault, but at
least with a well trained horse, he did everything I asked without hesitation).
Due to the LARGE bug population
this year, we opted to take the dirt roads instead of the trails thru the
woods. Tanya was on a horse she is training, Princess. We headed out from the
farm and had to take to the side of the road when cars passed. Buck barely
noticed the cars and listened each time I asked him to step away from the road
and then back on. He didn't hesitate to cross bridges and railroad tracks. He
didn't stumble over his feet, nor refuse any direction. He was a perfect
gentleman.
We rode nearly an hour and a
half. Finding some interesting cornfield trails, we got off road into the
fields and found some new trails in the woods that lead to an irrigation
ravine. Though we rode thru low branches and sticker trees and bushes, Buck
never faltered. I was re-inspired by my own ability to ride on various terrains
and in unfamiliar territory. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful ride.
Princess,
however, not as agreeable. She got very
jumpy when flies landed on her (they were really big flies) and the rail road
tracks were a huge concern. But with Tanya's expert handling, she learned that
not everything is as scary as it might first appear.
After being in the woods, it was
a nice break to get back out in the field and on the road away from the
monster-sized mosquitoes. Back on the road, we rode side by side, my cousin and
me. We talked about life and our friendship and just the fact that we have been
close our whole lives and this love of horses and horsemanship is just one more
thing we share.
It was a beautiful ride. The
entire weekend was packed with visiting and fun with my extended family, but
our trail ride early on Saturday morning was a very

Honoring Those Who Serve
I write grants for different
non-profit organizations located in our county. One organization is "The
Colonel Charles Waterhouse Historical Art Museum." This museum is unique.
Colonel Waterhouse, is a living historical artist, and
a Veteran of three wars.
I have learned so much of
American history from the Revolutionary days till today, just studying his
paintings and sculptures. Each has such realism that they look more like true
color photographs than a painting.
The faces in
each painting brings the realism of pain and anguish that our military men
and women see and live through. Even my grandchildren have remarked that you
could see the sweat and worry on the faces in the paintings. (Great
insight and appreciation of art in these youngsters.)
In discussing what our military
forces go through on a daily basis, I have asked them to "Adopt A Troup" or "Adopt a Vet" and pray for these
individuals, and to write and send cards to the wounded soldiers.
I am asking that each of you do
the same. Thanksgiving and Christmas is an especially hard time for them.
You can buy inexpensive
greeting cards at a $1 store and write a little note of encouragement. (Or play
designing one on the computer.) That's
the least we can do for those that give so much.
Remember to thank them with a
message of love and cheer. No Politics!
Here is one address I have.
But, there are others too.
