Howdy Folks and Good Day!

I’d like to ask you to pause for a moment and reflect on what you are grateful for today.  Don’t just think about it, let the feelings of gratitude permeate your heart, your mind, your body.  Let them warm you up, bring a smile to your face.  Really embrace whatever it is you are grateful for…

Doesn’t that feel better?

So often in life we are blessed but get too caught up to recognize the blessings and enjoy them.  Our prayers get answered but we’re too busy worrying to see we’ve received what we asked for.

I’d like to share an incident which comes to mind.  I was in line at a local gas station convenience store because the gas pump I had given my debit card to wasn’t working.  The gentleman in front of me had a case of water in his hands.

Everything about him screamed, “I’m tough!”  His stance, facial expression, large muscles, tattoos, haircut, torn denim shorts and t-shirt with rolled up sleeves… even the huge red truck he was driving.

As his turn to pay drew nearer, he jostled his wallet out of his pocket while still holding the case of water with his other hand.  Although he was very muscular it was still awkward and he dropped some of the money out of his wallet, coins and dollars falling to the floor.

I kneeled down and helped him retrieve his money, and he said a quick thank you.  Seeing his embarrassment, I joked a little with him to put him at ease. After he paid for the water, he said good-bye and I bid him a good journey.  His last words to me were, “I hate to be a pessimist but that’s getting harder and harder. The world’s just not a safe place anymore.”  And he was out the door.

I wondered if he knew he was standing in one of the safest cities in the United States of America?! (Statistically it really is!)

I also thought how ironic it was that God had sent a minister (me) to be there to help him retrieve his money – safely   without taking any of it.  And that even his emotions were being held safe during our conversation.  He was blessed with safety all around him yet was so focused on his feelings of fear and his worry of not being safe, he couldn’t see that he was.

Just think what a different experience it would have been for him had he taken a moment to be grateful for being safe, feeling safe, for keeping safe.  Instead of feeling threatened by the world, he would have felt blessed by it.

Our bodies are human barometers. They really do let us know when things are unsafe.  But we can cloud their readings with our fear.  When, however, we are living in a place of gratitude, our intuition does protect us when we tune into it!  So we can usually maintain a sense of calmness instead of worry.  The majority of us who are going about living somewhat normal lives have little to fear and much to be grateful for.  (Obviously some folks choose to put their lives at risk to keep us safe – I’m grateful for them, too!)

I hope you’ll join me in a gratitude experiment today.  Take a few gratitude breaks to focus on being grateful for what’s in your life. Do this especially when you find yourself in a place of worry… whether it’s over your safety, finances, job, relationships, health, etc.  Just focus on feeling grateful for the outcome you desire.  Allow that gratitude to permeate your entire being, even if it’s just for a few minutes.  See what a difference it makes in how you feel about yourself and the world!

Have a truly Blessed day!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

2.      Humor:  Thanks to Jan K.

A NOTE from the Editor:  Today’s humor selection may be a bit different than you’re used to in SFPNN but with the holidays upon us, many folks will be spending time with family friends they haven’t seen in ages.  And while there will be much catching up to do, there will also be many things we’ve faced through-out the year which will be left unspoken.  I hope the following will bring a smile to your face as you think about these get-togethers and how human we all are!

SOMETIMES

Sometimes...
when you cry... no one sees your tears.

Sometimes...
when you are in pain... no one sees your hurt.

Sometimes...
when you are worried... no one sees your stress.

Sometimes...
when you are happy... no one sees your smile.

But FART just ONE time... And everybody knows!!!

4.      For A Good Laugh, Check Out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

5.      Kindness Suggestion

SHARE THE FRUITS OF HOME

One of the most memorable things anyone has done for me was from a lovely SFPNNer named Rosvita.

In our correspondence, I mentioned how much I had enjoyed picking McIntosh apples with my grandparents as child. It was one of the things I loved about growing up in Wisconsin and looked forward to it every autumn, along with the refreshing apple cider and wonderfully delicious apple pies that came afterwards.

At the time I lived in Atlanta and McIntosh apples were very difficult to come by as the climate was too warm over the winter to grow them.  Rosvita surprised me with the most generous gift of shipping me an entire box of McIntosh apples all the way from Minnesota!   I will never forget her gracious and generous gift that brought a little piece of Home to me in Atlanta.

Recently, our niece Maria moved to San Francisco. Knowing it was her first autumn away from the Midwest and how much she would miss the turning of the trees, her mom collected several colorful leaves and pressed them in wax paper.  She then sent them to Maria who truly appreciated them.

Sometimes it’s the little things which remind us of “home” or of our fond childhood memories that make such a big difference.

If you’re looking for a way to really make some feel good, spend a little time talking to them.  What reminds them of home?  What brings up cherished memories?  It could be something as simple as an apple or a colorful leaf.  But finding a way to share that little piece of home can leave a big impression!

(I know it’s been a few years, but thanks again Rosvita!  And thanks to Nancy who sent me the most gorgeous picture of the trees changing when I was the one missing the Midwest autumn foliage.)

6.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

E-mail: “KINDNESS

7.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

Enjoying a beautiful Fall day, sitting by the side of the Ohio River, this song started singing itself through me.

Take in the glory

When my eyes take in the glory
Of this beautiful universe,
I feel so very blest
To be given such a gift.
The gift of letting everything be
A contribution to me.
I trust that all is for my good;
It’s all part of possibility,
When I let all things be as they would be,
With little interference from me.

Hi, I don’t know about you but sometimes I forget to take a moist wipe to clean my monitor screen as often as I could.  Well this web site will help clean it for you.

If you have a dial up connection, as I do, you’ll want to let it run a little while, I went and checked on a few e-mails and then come back to watch the monitor cleaner do its job, he starts slowly but gets faster and will do a really good job for you.  Also, he keeps checking over his shoulder to see if you have come back yet.   LOL
