Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Right now my mind is racing with messages about heroes, dreams, success, and defeat.  I’m overcome with thoughts about what it takes to motivate and inspire, to stand up for what you believe in, to prevail against all odds and overcome life’s greatest challenges.

Today, the United States observes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday.  Dr. King is one of my heroes.  Why?  Because he KNEW with all his heart and soul that every human being deserved to be given a fair chance, to be treated with dignity and respect, to live in equality.  It didn’t matter what your background was.  And it certainly didn’t matter what hue your skin-tone was.  Martin Luther King, Jr., had a dream… a vision of a better world where all children played together, and all voices sang together.

Not only did he have a dream, a vision, he had the passion, motivation and determination to take his dream to the world.  Dr. King also had courage, persistence, and true faith.

We don’t hear a lot about individual true-life heroes today, although many celebrities do seem to take star status. But being a star and a hero are two different things.

I have to admit, my living modern day heroes are sports players who wear green and gold and know how to carry a football.  Growing up in Wisconsin, the Green Bay Packers gave our family something – and somebody — to root for...Even if the best thing about the game at that time was tailgating in the parking lot.  We still had hope that one day our team would become victorious again.

And when a new group of fellows came on board which included Brett Favre and Donald Driver, they did become victorious in many ways!  They had determination, skill, and drive.  They set the passion of their dreams into the game and their vision to be the best.

They had something else I admire… team spirit.  And they brought the rest of Wisconsin, and many other states, into that spirit.

At least for a while.  Then their team management changed. Their coaches changed.  Many of their players changed.  And last year… the unthinkable almost happened… their star quarterback, who had worked so hard to turn the team around, almost retired after a season which included 8 consecutive losses in its first half.

But Brett Favre made a decision to stay with his dream – and his team.  And this year the Green Bay Packers won the championship title in their division of the NFL.  Not just because Brett Favre stayed to play another year, but because they became a real team again!

They had rookies and veterans, and everyone in between.  They worked with each other, supported and encouraged one another. They played their best no matter what.  They broke personal and professional records.  And they won!  At least until yesterday.  Looks like Brett’s going to have to come back another year if he wants to play in the Super Bowl again!

I wonder what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would think seeing people of every race, background, and ethnicity playing together the way the Packers (and many other sports teams) do.  I wonder what he would feel seeing young children as well as adults of every origin rooting together for their favorite teams…

The world has changed a lot since Dr. King took his stand for equality and worked to bring victory to all people.  In general, we’ve learned to embrace one another, to treat each other with dignity and respect.  But we still have a ways to go.  (Both in how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves.)

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. put his heart and soul into his dream of a better land – and his life.  While most of us do not have to take the kind of risks Dr. King did, or even risk as much as our local sports heroes do, we can use our lives to make a difference in the world.

Unlike Dr. King and the sports teams, we don’t have to reach the masses.  We simply need to reach out to others from our heart.  When we treat ourselves and everyone we encounter with dignity and respect, we allow grace to flow. This grace blesses all those involved.  It brings love.  It brings a sense of belonging and acceptance.  It gives each one of us encouragement to overcome our own obstacles.  And it helps us create a better world; one where all of our children can play hand and hand.

Who knows?  Maybe they’ll even become the next favored sports team.  And like the Green Bay Packers, whether or not they make it to the Super Bowl, they’ll be in heroes because of their camaraderie and team spirit.

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

5.      Sir Froggie’s Pondering — from Sir Froggie

MOVE THROUGH THE FEAR

What do you fear in life?  What dreams have you denied yourself because you feared failure – or even success?  How does fear block you in your personal and professional life?

It’s time to move through the fear.

Fear has many meanings.  Webster’s Dictionary defines fear as: dread, alarm, anxiety, unpleasant emotion caused by coming evil or danger.  And we’ve all heard the acronym stating F.E.A.R. is really False Evidence Appearing Real.  Fear is often the product of ego-based thinking or the part of our Self responsible for sabotaging behaviors. We all have our own personal fears and anxieties… Some of them are well-founded and some of them are merely superstitious worry.

With all this fear, how does one move through it?

There are several strategies we can use.

Our greatest fears usually have a kernel of truth to them which gets wrapped up in anxiety and snowballs into overwhelming proportions.  In this case, we can seek out the kernel of truth and address it.  If the ego says getting a great job is impossible because of a lack of credibility and education, we can take additional classes and training, or get a formal education which will result in more credibility.  Of course a great job is never impossible, but we can use those fears of inadequacy as a roadmap to improvement.

Another tactic for overcoming fear is to simply choose to move through it.  Acknowledge the butterflies in the stomach, the tightness in the chest.  Think of the fear like a flimsy curtain; then simply decide to move through it.  Often once we make the first leap we feared so much, the consequent steps are much easier.

We can also break our big fears down into tiny pieces.  Instead of facing what we fear head on in its full intimidating self, we can tackle one tiny portion at a time.

Another way to move beyond fear is to motivate ourselves with the worthiness of our cause.  If something has enough meaning, and is valuable enough to us, we’ll become very passionate and energized by it.  Focusing on our end result, and our connection to it, we are motivated to keep going whenever fear rises up.

One surprisingly easy method of moving beyond fear is to surrender our resistance.  Relax.  Go into that “Zen state” where consciously breathing in and out leads one’s mind beyond the chatter and resistance of what is feared.  It’s kind of like moving into a challenging yoga position… When we first attempt it, our muscles may strain and resist going into the pose. But when we relax and let go of the resistance and tension, our muscles (and mind), suddenly release and we can stretch even further with grace and ease.

Last but not least, one of the greatest tools for moving through fear is faith.  If we can’t put our faith into our own abilities, we can at least put our faith in a higher power that will help us through our fears.   We can access this faith through our prayers, an invitation or request for help from God or our angels, journaling, or by becoming Fully Active Invoking the Heavens.

The most important part is not to give up.

And to move through the fear.
