Howdy Folks and Good Day!

As new advances in technology and accumulated knowledge come faster and more readily accessible, we’re pushed to hurry up, get this done, do that important task, try this new stuff or buy that new gadget.  With all this rushing about, we often miss out on life’s most simple pleasures.

We’ve all heard the expression, “Take a bite out of life” but I think they only got it half right.  We not only need to take a bite out of life, to get the most out of it, we need to slow down and taste it too!

I’d like to extend an invitation for you to try this easy little experiment… Don’t worry. It will leave a good taste in your mouth. Literally.

You see, we have an average 10,000 taste buds on our tongue and the roof of our mouths. (Learn more in YOU on a Diet - by Mehmet C. Oz and Michael F. Roizen).    Even with all those taste buds most of us are in such as hurry when we eat we don’t really taste our food.  Yet taste is one of life’s most basic pleasures. And nearly every single one of us can it enjoy the pleasure of taste without much effort!

Set aside about 15-30 minutes.  It can even be your normal snack or meal time.  (Don’t worry if you’re dieting.  This experience only requires very small amounts of food.  Two to three small pieces each will work!) Here’s what you’ll need…

* A few berries – such as blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc.

* A few slices of a peach, apple, pear or other “mellow fruit.”

* Some dark chocolate  -- Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips work great!

* A favorite cheese – such as cheddar, dill havarti, colby, etc.

* Tasty whole grain crackers or some fresh bread; olive oil or butter optional

* A beverage of your choice – perhaps a nice coffee, tea, or a glass of wine.

* A glass of water

Arrange the food on the plate in an appealing way.  Despite what your mother always said, go ahead and play with your food!  Make it look pretty, exciting, colorful and enticing.  Enjoy the scents and textures as you arrange them.  If your mouth starts to water, that’s just fine!  Place the beverages in your most special wine goblets or inviting mugs.  Grab the napkins, light a candle on the table and let’s begin!

When participating in a wine tasting, they have you roll the wine over different parts of your tongue because various areas of the tongue specialize in assorted tastes and sensations.  During a normal meal we don’t notice this because we’re usually more focused on finishing our food than enjoying it.  Today, we’re going to slow down the pace and literally enjoy every bite!

Begin by taking a sip of water.  How does it feel on your tongue?  Do you notice any “taste” to it.  (Those of you in Florida drinking tap water definitely will!  J )  Roll the water around your tongue from front to back, side to side.  Do you experience any sensations?   Now swallow.

When we think of water, we often think of “nothingness” in terms of flavor.  Even the nutrition labels show water as having “0” value on everything!   But water is a vital part of our existence.  We’d die without it in less than two weeks!  Even though we think of water as neutral, if we tune in to it, there really are different tastes to water, depending on the minerals in your area, and even how much chlorine and fluoride is used.   If you didn’t notice a distinct taste, that’s ok.   We’re moving on.

Next pick up one of the berries.  Let yourself really look at it.  Notice the color, the textures, the bumps and crevices.  Does it conjure up any memories or remind you of anything?  Take a deep breath and let yourself inhale its fragrance?  Can you taste it already?  Now place the berry in your mouth.  Make sure you continue breathing.  Before biting into it, let your tongue experience its full texture.  Can you taste anything yet? Now bite down.  Did the taste change?  Roll the berry around your tongue as you chew.  Movie it from front to back, side to side.  Are there any different tastes or sensations in different areas?   (Ironically, the top of the tongue which we tend to use the most to assist in chewing our food has the fewest taste buds!)   Now swallow.

How was the berry different from the water?  Did your body respond any differently?  Did it trigger any thoughts or emotions?   Was it a pleasant experience?

Repeat the process with a second berry.  Did it taste the same as the first, or are there slight differences?

Move on to another piece of food from your plate.  Again, allow yourself to take in all the visual ambiance and scents before putting the food into your mouth.  Pay attention to your thoughts as you do.  Place it on your tongue and once again notice the taste.  Then chew and move the food around your mouth and take in the various tastes and sensations with each part of your tongue.  Then swallow. See what the experience conjures up.

Experiment with how food tastes paired with other food.  For instance how does the flavor of the cheese differ when following a piece of chocolate compared to following a piece of fruit or bread?  How is it different after drinking coffee or wine compared to drinking water?

Really let yourself experience each and every bite of food you take from your plate, each and every sip of water and beverage you drink.  Notice their subtleties and the thoughts, memories, emotions and physical sensations they trigger.

Is it easy for you to slow down and enjoy each bite, each sip, or do you feel stressed because you’re used to rushing through your food?  Do you notice more flavor than usual?  More texture?  More fragrance?  Do you feel like you have more energy eating this way?  Does your appetite feel more satisfied than usual?   (Bonus: this is a great dieting tool!)

Realistically, most of us won’t have time to enjoy every single meal at this leisurely rate, but learning to tune in to our pleasure senses and individual tastes when we eat can enhance every meal – even at a little quicker pace.

The act of observation can help us tune in to all of life’s pleasures, whether we’re eating, driving to work, taking a walk, playing with our kids, snuggling with our pets, or even typing at a keyboard.

Slowing down and taking in our total environment makes life a much more rewarding and fulfilling experience.  Instead of craving the next bite, or the next new thing, we enjoy what we have already.  And if we want to add to it, we’ll do so more consciously and with much more gratitude.  (Another bonus:  being satisfied with what we have is a great way to reduce spending and credit card debt!)

I hope you truly enjoy taking a bite out of life – and really tasting it, too!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

The kind of day we make it!

A little pro-active positive programming can go a long way in creating our heart’s desires.  All of our thoughts have energy.  Energy attracts like energy.  Think about your desires for today. What would you like to experience in the next 24 hours?   Allow yourself to see it manifesting in your mind’s eye and feel it happening in your body so the energy of your thoughts and emotions draws it to you. JOURNALING

Journaling is very important.  It is probably one of the most helpful things that you could do for yourself.

It is all about taking the time to check in with you.  And if you do not have time for yourself, well then you really need to tweak your schedule.  If you do not take care of yourself, eventually other areas of your life will run a-muck sooner or later.

Every one can spare five minutes a day to journal.  That’s all it takes.  OK, maybe more like fifteen minutes of draining the brain, getting out what’s bothering you, pondering about what you’d like to see happen, or writing about the great things that are going on in your life that you are grateful for and want to be able to look back and remember one day.

Many people are crazy busy running around like chickens with their heads cut off and don’t have time for anything else, let alone writing in a journal.  Which is total baloney because I just went through a crazy week and was very much sleep deprived, and what kept me sane was to start each morning writing in my journal.

So for all the crazy busy excuses my response is and will always be… What happens when you get really, really sick?  I’ll tell you what happens, you stop everything and nothing in the world matters except for you getting well.  And you “check out” until you are well and the world doesn’t fall apart.  So it is possible for you to take a break, and journaling sure beats being laid flat out on your back sick as a dog for a week.

Journaling doesn’t have to be a chore.  It is a gift.  It is a mini vacation.  It is validation… I matter, my life matters and I wanna take the time to look at it, plan for it and appreciate it.

Journaling is a valuable tool.  Maybe you’d like to schedule an appointment with yourself today?  It does the mind, body and soul good.

6.      GOOD NEWS from SFPNNers!

CONGRATULATIONS FRIEDA & CHAIM OF
JERUSALEM!

Last night, the gentleman I have been seeing asked me to marry him.

Feeling inadequate and lacking self-love at the moment, I told him I didn't think I was special enough for him.  Thank G-d he pooh-poohed this comment, and made me realize that w/ G-d, anything is possible.

And he thought I was what he wanted - as I have been thinking during the last 5 months that he has been 'courting' me.

So, I said yes!

Now we have to meet each other's children + spouses, 4 of mine and 3 of him.....possibly individually, in order to get to know them.  We'll tackle the next generation, and the next one, later on.  No date has been set yet - but I will keep you informed.

Chaim was born in 1936, and I in 1935, so I'm a few months older.  We hope to get married soon, as we ain't getting any younger.  This will be his 2nd marriage, and my 3rd - wow!

SO CAL CHUMASH HIKE RESCHEDULED TO 02/02/08

Haku!

Due to the rain last week, the nature hike that was scheduled for Jan 26 at 10 a.m. has been rescheduled to THIS Saturday, Feb 2 at noon.

Good news!  You can accomplish all of these things by joining us for a nature hike on Saturday February 2 at noon. There is no minimum number to attend this hike, just RSVP by phone or email and let us know you want to join in.

Our hikes generally last around 2 1/2 hours. The admission for this hike is $5 for ages 5-16 and $10 for 17 and over. This fee includes admission to the museum upon your return. MISHKA WORKSHOP ON UNDERSTANDING MEN!

Hello Ladies....or... if you are a man, forward this to the women in your life!

Mishka Productions is sponsoring a workshop on understanding MEN!  You will find the information in this workshop extraordinarily valuable for your life and for your friends and family.  I took the workshop in LA and loved it so much that we are sponsoring PAX Seminars to bring the workshop to Scottsdale.  It has transformed my understanding and relationships with men.

It is called Celebrating Men, Satisfying Women and if you speak to anyone who has taken this course they will tell you the exact same thing....it changed my relationships and understanding of men!

Here are some of the things covered in the workshop:

-          How the insight about the myth of “The Ideal Woman” unlocks keys to greater understanding for yourself and men.

-          How to really LISTEN to men.

-          Why men are NOT dysfunctional, defective or misbehaving.

-          We are all strong, capable women who don’t NEED men, yet why believing this and acting from this   position keeps you from getting what you want.

-          How to tell a man what you need (exact script!)

-          Why asking men about their feelings does not get you the results you are looking for.

-          What makes a man want to give you what you want?

-          Why women are ALWAYS interrupting men!

-          Truly get that men are our partners, not our adversaries.

-          How men are really FOR women!

-          Why men are NOT out to hurt you, in fact learn how we women hurt them more!

-          This is NOT a workshop about “Know Thy Enemy”. Why keeping men weak is not a good offense and will never make you happy.

Men are 50% of our population....how much does your relationship to the men in your life mean to you?

8.      Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The California Dreamer

Believe in A Life Worth Living

I have been ever so surprised with the replies I have already gotten with regards to people making vision boards.  This is going to be a great exercise to start thinking more about what it is going to take for you to "Create a life worth living."

Many of us have these ideas rolling around in our heads about what our life should look like or what we want our life to look like.  But where the rubber meets the road is when we get clear on what we desire. It is so amazing how once our desires come to the forefront of our minds and the intention is made that what we need for the vision board just shows up. And then one by one the things on the board show up in our lives.

I have been giving a lot of thought about this theme of creating a life worth living.

I thought I had this down and knew what it meant to me.  Life is all about change, and true to form, the things I desire can also change.  The core essence of my desires hasn't changed much.  What has changed is my attitude and belief about obtaining what I desire.

Today, instead of hoping, wishing and saying, “Yeah, but…” I now believe all that I desire will come to me.  With just the fact that I dreamt about moving to California for so many years and never gave up my dream and made it happen, I know that once an intention is set, it can come true.

I also know if we get exactly what we want when we want it that sometimes we wouldn't appreciate it as much.  Had I moved here to California so long ago when I first wanted to, I would never have appreciated it as much as I do today.

How is your belief system?

Is it doubtful that all you desire can be yours? Is it just a little doubtful? Have you even given your belief system any thought?

Take some time this week and invest it in yourself.  Give some serious thought to creating your life.

Ask yourself to challenge your current belief system. Ask yourself what you really desire to make your life worth living and then… ask yourself if you believe you can have the life you are dreaming of?

Keep those comments about your vision boards coming. I am enjoying hearing from you and your progress on it.

Here's to a GREAT Creative week.
