Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Having studied the Tao Te Ching briefly in high school as part of a cultural studies class, I was thrilled to learn about Wayne Dyer’s newest book Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.  Dr. Dyer studied each of the 81 verses of the Tao Te Ching, meditated on them for four days and then wrote an essay on them, including how to “Do the Tao Now.”

For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Tao Te Ching is one of the oldest known books in publication, written five hundred years before the birth of Jesus Christ!   Second only to the Bible in distribution, The Tao is loosely translated as “The Way.”  (Te means “the shape and power” or how something manifests in the world and Ching means book.)  It is thought to have been penned by a wise elder named Lao-Tzu.

Scholars of the Tao say it is the way to peace, understanding and enlightenment.  Many even believe Jesus studied (or was at least well aware of) the teachings of the Tao while he was traveling as a young adult.

The Tao’s verses are fairly short, but it offers enough to ponder for a life-time!   With that said, I was actually somewhat skeptical when I heard Wayne Dyer had only meditated on each of the verses for four days before writing about his experiences.  Skepticism, however, leads one to seek the truth and see for your self.  So that’s just what I did.

I’m only on Verse 2 of The Tao and Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life but I’m already enjoying it and would like to share part of it with you.

“Under Heaven all can see beauty as beauty
only because there is ugliness.”

    Lao-Tzu, The Tao Te Ching

What I love about this concept is that it not only reinforces finding the gift in things that seem less than perfect, but that we actually NEED what we define as ugliness in order to determine or define what is beautiful to us.

So often it’s easier for people to point out what we don’t like, what we don’t want, rather than to define what it is we DO like, what we actually do want for ourselves and our lives.   Becoming aware of what we consider undesirable helps us more clearly define what we most desire.

We often think of opposites as completely different things but another line in the 2nd Verse of the Tao bridges that gap…

“Long is defined by short, the high by the low.
Before and after go along with each other.”

When we measure the length of something we use a ruler.  Whether it’s marked by inches or centimeters, the increments are fairly short in nature.  By counting the number of the short increments, we determine how long something is.  The “shortness” is not opposite of the length at all, it is a part of it.  Shortness exists simultaneously within the same spectrum of length.

Rather than opposites being separate and different from one another, they are simply different ends or parts of the same spectrum.  It’s our judgment, or what we use to measure things, which determines how far apart we see them.

Have you ever tried to create graphic drawings on a computer?  In the “old days” we just had eight colors.  Go back even further, and there were no colors, it was just grayscale.  We had a palate that went from black to white.  The “color” squares were all lined up next to each other and we had to pick which one of the eight we wanted.  Even though we see black and white as different colors, using a grayscale palate, they are all part of the same spectrum of colors, it’s only their hue, or their ratio of black to white, white to black, which changes.

Fast forward and we have color and grayscales with hundreds of options available.  Where black and white had only been eight squares away from one another, now they are 256 squares or more away.  Neither black nor white changed, but what we measure them with did!  And that affects our perception of how different they are.

Here’s another example.  Remember that PH Scale we had to learn in chemistry?  Acids and bases seemed like completely opposite things, yet they were all measured on the same spectrum… the PH Scale.

So how does this apply to real life?

Quite simply when we embrace ourselves and others as being part of the same spectrum, we realize we’re not opposites.  We may be different, but we’re part of the same scale of life.  We’re all connected in various ways.

We can each maintain our individual differences without canceling out another.  And in fact, we NEED our differences and unique traits to help us better see and appreciate ourselves and everyone else on the planet.

It goes beyond connecting with people.  When we realize that health and illness are part of the same spectrum, and human beings are part of the same spectrum as God, we can direct God’s energy into a perceived illness to raise its frequency or balance to that of health!  Illness is no longer the opposite of health, it’s merely a different ratio, one which we can work with and change the amount of energy in until it becomes health.

This same principle applies to creating wealth, love, peace, joy, balance or anything else we desire.  Knowing everything is connected on a continuous spectrum, we are no longer fighting opposing forces but simply changing our energy ratios and focus to manifest what we want instead of what we don’t want.

May you see the beauty of everything under heaven and appreciate the ugliness which helps you notice it with a grateful heart for all.

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

EMILY ROSE

So this morning I pulled out my nifty book May I Have This Dance, Little One? God’s Whispers and asked ~ Ok dude, what do I need to know for today?

I just opened the book up and I found the following on page 121…

Please give.  Be my vessel.  Help someone, Little One.

So here I am to help someone…

Emily Rose.

Isn’t that a beautiful name?

Emily Rose.

Doesn’t that just roll off your tongue so gently and sweet?

Emily Rose.

Can’t ya just feel the warmth and love and hope?

Today in place of my journaling I want to share with you an email a friend sent to me about Emily Rose.

There is a time and a place for everything… and today is all about Emily Rose.

The email from my friend ~

In January, my nine year old niece was diagnosed with osteo-carcinoma, a cancer that manifested in the bones of her arm, and subsequently spread into her lungs through the lymphatic system.  The cancer was found because a mass in her upper arm grew large enough to break the bone.  She has begun chemotherapy treatments, and if they can get the tumor in her arm down to manageable size she will have her arm amputated at the shoulder.

My half-sister, Karla and her husband Dan have no health insurance and have been out of work for several weeks now caring for Emily.  Their local women's club (in San Diego) is doing a fundraiser for them.  If you have even a couple of dollars to spare to help them out, I know we would all appreciate it.

For anyone who is in the San Diego area and would like details on the event being held at Fudruckers for Emily, please email me and I'll get you the flyer.

Eileen Sherrill Jackson

---

I read this email yesterday.  I sat with it for a little while.  I got out my checkbook and wrote a $50 donation check.  I mailed it out immediately.

I don’t have gobs of money just lying around… but you know what?

I have never faced ANYTHING even remotely as hard as what Emily Rose and her family are facing.

And if I were in their shoes love and support from complete strangers would give me hope, courage and the strength to keep going and never give up.

I don’t share with you that I gave money because I am oh so great.

I share for two reasons…

One, I put my money where my mouth is.  I don’t ask others to reach out unless I am willing to do it myself.

Two, I know what it means to need all of your pennies to take care of yourself and your family…but every now and again when something touches your heart…you gotta be willing to look outside of yourself and help another.

We are here to help each other.

Emily Rose.

Isn’t that a beautiful name?

Until next time,

WALKING FOR MIND, BODY AND SOUL

Los Angeles, CA -- Local hypnotherapist Rosalba Fontanez will be hosting a “walk with intention” through Griffith Park on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 9:00 am.  The walk will begin at the Merry Go-Round and continue through footpaths, for about 30 to 45 minutes.  Participants will be encouraged to walk at their own pace.

Like most health care practitioners, Fontanez believes that stagnation and a sedentary lifestyle will slowly degrade one‘s quality of life, but movement--such as walking--creates a shift in that energy.  It offers an easy way to relieve stress, increase brain power, and improves one’s mood and overall health.

Fontanez created these walks after contemplating how she could better serve the community.  To “walk with intention” refers to making a conscious awareness to nourish and heal oneself through very easy exercise.  She feels the peaceful setting of Griffith Park allows a deeper connection to the spiritual side of life and invites anyone who is ready to make that change.

Fontanez will conduct a short introduction on how these walks serve to enhance peace and healing--first in the individual and then in the world--while sharing the intention of creating more peace personally in one’s life and, by extension, the rest of the planet. This is an opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals and feed one’s health.

Emotional and spiritual healing are two areas Fontanez has focused on since her graduation with honors from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute in 2005.  Her practice employs traditional hypnotherapy techniques but also branches out to more esoteric modalities, dependent on her clients’ needs.  She has assisted clients in successfully overcoming a variety of issues, from anxiety and phobias to stress management and smoking cessation.

JEANETTE COMPLETES BACHELOR’S DEGREE

I’ve been studying self help, self improvement, and spirituality on my own for over twenty years now.  I’ve often joked that I could create my own special degree.  In fact, at one point I enrolled in Atlanta’s Oglethorpe University to do just that.  Unfortunately, a medical crisis stopped me before I began but I continued to study and embrace the principles I was learning.

A little over a year and a half ago, I enrolled in a new program through the University of Metaphysical Sciences which will allow me to eventually earn a Ph.D. in Metaphysical Sciences and a Doctrine of Divinity in Spiritual Counseling.   The program is broken down into several portions including a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, Master’s Thesis and a spiritual doctrine.

This month I completed my 50th class!  That means I’ve made it through the Bachelor’s portion and now have my first ever Bachelor’s Degree in Metaphysical Sciences!   And I’m at least half way through to earning my Ph.D. and D.D.!   Woo-hoo!

Thanks to Mark for being so supportive and to all of our SFPNN Authors who have been fantastic at keeping the ball rolling while my attention has been scattered in many different areas of life.  I couldn’t do it without you!

COMMODITIES OF THE HEART REVISITED

This week I am taking part of the week off to be a tourist.  My Aunt is here from out of state and she and I are hanging out and enjoying visiting.  We haven't spent any quality time together in many years.

We have now been up to the Regan Library in Simi Valley, CA.  We took a drive up the coast to Ventura, CA and also went to the Getty Center in Los Angeles to view art work from around the world.  I have several more interesting places to share with her before she leaves on the weekend.

For me, part of creating a life worth living, includes taking time off to spend with loved ones or just to be and enjoy myself without keeping to my routine.

Keeping with my theme of Love for the month of February I am re-running part of one of my favorite February articles.  I trust you will enjoy it again and it will give you something to think about implementing into your own life today.

COMMODITIES OF THE HEART

"What is essential is invisible to the eye"

— Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Love is an action word.  Yes, it is a choice each one of us has.  We choose to love or to allow someone to love us in return. In my opinion the way we choose to love comes from our "Commodities of the Heart.'

And what exactly is a commodity? A commodity is something useful or of value.  A commodity of the heart is something of value we possess in our storehouse with us, something that we consciously choose to share with another.

Someone or something to love comes in many different forms.  We can have a great affection for "something" or "some place."  We can completely enjoy going to a particular place and say we love it there.  We all have a favorite certain something that we are very fond of and say we love it.  We certainly love our pets.

I truly believe that quote - "What is essential is invisible to the eye."

Commodities of the heart aren't always seen with our eyes.  They often are felt with our heart and soul.  They are actions, which when taken and shown, produce great dividends to the giver as well as receiver.  We must be willing to express and show these commodities as well as allow ourselves to be open to receive these actions from another.

To some, expressing love comes easy, others must work at giving their commodities of the heart to another.  We are all worthy of having love in our lives and yet, there are those who’ve never allowed themselves to give or receive it.  What is true in your life?

Read my list of these ever so important commodities and see if you express these to your loved ones. If not, why don't you try to? See if you can add more to this list.  These are the commodities I find essential.

Admiration.
Appreciation.
Affection.
Attention.
Compassion.
Desire.
Emotion.
Flexibility.
Gentleness.
Kindness.
Openness.
Respect.
Supportiveness.
Tenderness.
Vulnerability.
