Howdy Folks and Happy Leap Day!

It might seem like just any old normal day, but this day, February 29th, only comes once in every four years.  And that’s pretty cool.  It’s the extra day in the calendar year, the day placed in our schedulers to help keep us in balance with the Earth’s natural rotation.  A day to enjoy, cherish, celebrate, and live life to its fullest.

Come to think of it, I guess it is kind of like every other normal day!

Babies will be born today.  And loved ones will die today.  There will be plenty of hugs, kisses, holding hands, smiles and “hellos” given out today, as well as “I’m sorry for hurting you.”   There will be ups and downs.  Happy surprises and unsettling disappointments.  The world will keep spinning on its axis and we’ll try to keep moving throughout our lives.

But perhaps as we go through our day realizing Leap Day only comes once in four years, we’ll treat it – and each other – with a little more gratitude and respect.   Maybe we’ll take a little extra time to get centered, balanced and grounded so that we can keep ourselves in alignment with our highest good.

Today might even prompt us to stop and smell the flowers, call a loved one, play with the children, or nuzzle with a special pet.  It could be the perfect day to really love ourselves and each other.  And to give thanks to God for creating us… along with this perfect leap day.

May this day – and every other – truly be special and filled with Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity

1.      Happy 45th Anniversary to Denny and Melva of IN!

Congratulations, Y’all!   May your love continue to grow stronger with each day and bless you both in every way!

2.      What kind of day will today be?

The kind of day we make it!

A little pro-active positive programming can go a long way in creating our heart’s desires.  All of our thoughts have energy.  Energy attracts like energy.  Think about your desires for today. What would you like to experience in the next 24 hours?   Allow yourself to see it manifesting in your mind’s eye and feel it happening in your body so the energy of your thoughts and emotions draws it to you. Affirm it on the lines below!

Today, I desire and experience…

BUBBA’S BED PROBLEM

Bubba went to a psychiatrist.

"I've got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there's somebody under it. I'm scared. I think I'm going crazy."

"Just put yourself in my hands for one year," said the shrink.  "Come talk to me three times a week, and we should be able to get rid of those fears."

"How much do you charge?"

"Eighty dollars per visit, " replied the doctor.

"I'll sleep on it," said Bubba.

Six months later the doctor met Bubba on the street. "Why didn't you ever come to see me about those fears you were having?" asked the psychiatrist.

"Well eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought me a new pickup!"

"Is that so! And how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?"

"He told me to cut the legs off the bed! Ain't nobody under there now!!!"

5.      For a Good Laugh, Check out Tom R. Oh!

It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!

It doesn't stop there, though. Tom R. Oh is one of SFPNN's most prolific writers with a style uniquely his own and several mini series in the making.

6.      Kindness Suggestion

Pass a Good Word On!

During a recent get together, everyone was given a pad of writing paper and a pen. We were instructed to write our name at the top of the pad.

Next we had to write down one quality we like about ourselves!

Then we had to pass the pad of paper to our left.  The person to our left then had to write at least one good thing they liked about us, too!  When they were finished, the pad of paper got passed to the next person to write down something they liked about us.

And so our pads of paper traveled around the entire room to everyone in our group, giving each of us a chance to write down something we liked about every single person in attendance.

When we got our own pad of paper back, everyone was eager to read what was written about us.  Some laughed, some cried… happy tears.  Everyone felt good.  Everyone felt loved.

It really helped all of us shift our focus to the positive in each person we were with that night, including ourselves.   So often people assume others think the worst of them.  This was an opportunity to realize that everyone was thinking the best of each other.

So often we see only through the eyes of the ego, filtering out the good, believing only the negative.  Learning the good things everyone else sees in us can help shift our focus to see the positive within ourselves and finally know beyond a doubt that it’s the GOOD things which are TRUE.

After the exercise people glowed!  The energy was at a very high level and folks laughed, giggled and were happy to interact and help one another.

This is a great “game” to play with friends, family, co-workers, students, or in any group setting.  I hope you’ll give it a try.  It can truly be transformative.

And if you think it works well in a group setting, use the same concept and have everyone write something good about someone on a birthday card for them!

So go ahead.  Pass a good word on!

7.      TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!

Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world.  We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes.   Therefore, we have two challenges for you.

Kindness Challenge # 1:  Do something kind today and every day.   It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference.  Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact.   Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place.  And feel free to tell us about your kind act!

E-mail: “KINDNESS

Kindness Challenge # 2:  Share something kind someone has done for you!   People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis.  But we often overlook their kindness.  Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them.  Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.

8.      Moments of Joy — From Joy Hart

Sitting in the sunlight and feeling its healing rays, this song came to me.

god’s pure light

I am surrounded by God’s pure light,
Everything around me is shining and bright,
As I wield the power of God’s might
To bless everything I see.

When I send a blessing out from me,
Blessings radiate back to me,
And I am blest by everything I see,
As I let God live through me.

FAMILY BALANCE SHEET-NET WORTH

Good words are worth much, and cost little

Free advice is worth the price. ---Robert Half

It is not worth an intelligent man's time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that. ---G. H. Hardy

Worth = usefulness or importance; or having a value of; these are two of the many nuances of the meaning of worth.

Today’s link is to a very practical use of the idea of worth.  We hear and read that not only the rich or wealthy should know what their net worth is, we should all know where we really stand, or sit, with our overall finances.

“But,” you might say, “I need a CPA or at least an accountant to figure that out and that expense doesn’t fit into my budget anyway.”

Well the University of Maryland University College makes it easy to do yourself. Today’s link is a worksheet, you just plug in the figures from your monthly or annual statements and click on the “Compute Net Worth” button and it will do all the work.

I have heard some people say they don’t want to know because they know it is not good, but when they actually put the figures into the worksheet they were surprised they were not as bad off as they thought.  And three friends found that when they were able to talk to their bank and other creditors with these figures all printed out and showing their exact financial position, the creditors were so impressed that they had done the work to show that they now knew where they stood, the creditors worked with them on dealing with the debts they owed.

It feels really good to know exactly where you are rather than just guesstimating.  I’ve also heard that you have to know where you are to get to somewhere else, and many of us would like to get to rich or wealthy, so we can do more good things for ourselves and others.

It’s not hard, have fun with it.
