Howdy Folks and Good Day!
On my first visit to
Boy was I wrong!
For one thing, I quickly discovered that
One of the most surprising parts were all the signs around beaches and parks to beware of snakes – more precisely, RATTLE-snakes! And with good reason I might add, because we actually encountered one. Yes, a real one. Yes, it was still alive. And rattling. And big.
VERY BIG.
Needless to say this did NOT encourage me to support my
husband’s dream of moving to the region!
But I knew how much it meant to him.
And I knew he had worked hard to gain experience and a great reputation in
his field so he could be competitive in the
So as part of my agreement to move, I insisted on getting a
field guide to
Ironically, somehow just knowing what to expect with the help of the field guide eased my fears. I learned what was considered dangerous and what to look for and enjoy. I learned how to identify many things I was previously unaware even existed before. And I learned many wonderful things about the area, its wildlife and its climate.
I also learned to really love our new home.
Having a field guide helped. I’ve often mused how handy it would be to have a field guide for life. I guess in some ways we do. There are many spiritual texts and books to help guide us through life’s trials and tribulations. Not to mention all the people around us who willingly share their wisdom, insight and experience.
One of the greatest benefits of any field guide is learning to recognize things for what they are. This recognition can often help us find the beauty and divine essence we may have otherwise overlooked in our fear of the unknown. Taking time to really discover something, examine it, experience it and connect with it can move us beyond our fears and into appreciation and reverence.
I invite you to look at your life and those in it. Can you recognize their unique traits? Can you appreciate their true essence and see the beauty and divinity within them? Can you see it in yourself?
Learning to recognize our blessings – including those around us -- is one the keys to living a happy and fulfilled life… With or without a field guide.
(Or snakes. Great... big... rattlesnakes.)
With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…
Rev. Jeanette

My Song — by Lisa Vaden
YAY! Reunited
with a “Lost” Love!
Life has a funny way of talking to you… if you are open to listening.
I woke up this morning at
It was a scheduled outage so the power company could work on some stuff underground. I just forgot about it until it happened.
And I really wouldn’t have had a problem with it except… I had not made my morning coffee yet!!
I’ve got no problems with sitting around pondering, listening and writing by candlelight. It is actually how I start most days, minus the candlelight. It is just that my morning cup of coffee makes it soooooo much better!!!
And so I find myself sitting here pondering what am I gonna do about my missing coffee?
I considered getting in my car and driving to the nearest 7-11 to grab a cup of life affirming coffee. That warmed me up and I could even smell and taste the coffee…
And then I remembered that my building’s parking garage door is electric of all things so I couldn’t even get out if I were willing to make the trip!
On a positive note, at least I remembered this before sitting face to face with a door that wouldn’t budge! Talk about frustrating! That might have pushed me over the edge. I might have actually tried to duke it out with a door that was poised to win from the start!
Just kidding! I don’t need coffee that bad. Honest!
But still, I really like my first cup of coffee to get me started.
Now what?
I guess I am realizing that it is going to be a little while before I get a cup of coffee and I am just gonna have to figure out a way to be comfortable with where I am…and if I am really good, I’ll find a way to create/experience something neat and fun, or at least entertaining, about my whole sich (aka situation).
Ok. What exactly is life trying to tell me?
How about: detach
Lisa. You need to detach from everyone
and everything just for a little while and be with you.
Or how about: slow
down for a little while. There is
practically NOTHING else to do in the dark at
Or how about: play
a little bit. See the humor in your sich.
Playing, huh?
I like that!
How about this…
Ode* to My Morning Cup of Coffee
Oh how I enjoy smelling your freshly brewed aroma flittering throughout my home each morning.
It tickles my nose, warms my toes and makes me believe ~ today is gonna be a great day!
A touch of cream, a tad of sugar…it doesn’t take too much to make my heart sing.
I miss you so, and I will never take you for granted again.
Come back to me and you will see… you and me belong together.
Never do I want to wake again and not be greeted by my very best friend!
This time apart has made me see what you really mean to me.
Thank you for being in my life.
And if I didn’t know any better, I would think you are my wife!
The End
--
*I had to look up ‘ode’ to make sure it was the right word that I wanted to use to convey what I wanted to say. Did you know that an ode is defined as a poem intended to be sung? I didn’t. Now I do. Isn’t life grand? Oh yea, try picturing me singing the above to my morning cup of coffee. I practically did once we were finally reunited!!
--
And poof! Just like magic my electricity came back on!!
Seriously, I laid down what I was writing and rushed to my beloved coffee maker’s side to get my morning coffee brewing…just in case the power company wasn’t really finished.
And can I just tell you…that was the best darn cup of coffee I think I have ever had!
Sometimes you just don’t know what you have got…until it is gone.
The good thing is what is really yours always comes back!!
Life talks.
Are you listening?
Until next time…

WALKING FOR
Los Angeles, CA -- Local hypnotherapist
Rosalba Fontanez will be hosting a “walk with intention” through Griffith Park on Wednesdays and Fridays
during March at
Like most health care practitioners, Fontanez believes that stagnation and a sedentary lifestyle will slowly degrade one‘s quality of life, but movement--such as walking--creates a shift in that energy. It offers an easy way to relieve stress, increase brain power, and improves one’s mood and overall health.
Fontanez created these walks after contemplating how she
could better serve the community. To
“walk with intention” refers to making a conscious awareness to nourish and
heal oneself through very easy exercise.
She feels the peaceful setting of
Fontanez will conduct a short introduction on how these walks serve to enhance peace and healing--first in the individual and then in the world--while sharing the intention of creating more peace personally in one’s life and, by extension, the rest of the planet. This is an opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals and feed one’s health.
Emotional and spiritual healing are two areas Fontanez has focused on since her graduation with honors from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute in 2005. Her practice employs traditional hypnotherapy techniques but also branches out to more esoteric modalities, dependent on her clients’ needs. She has assisted clients in successfully overcoming a variety of issues, from anxiety and phobias to stress management and smoking cessation.

Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The
Speechless
"Do not the most moving
moments of our lives find us
— Marcel Marceau,
Mime
The other day I was driving home on the 101 headed north and as I came to the top of a hill that looked down into a small valley my breath was taken away.
I couldn't believe the view before my eyes. It was dusk and the sun was setting. Between the view of the mountains and the sky that was painted with orange and yellow, I didn't know which one was prettier.
As I came down the hill, I said out loud, “Thank you, God.” It was one of those moments when I was at a complete loss for words. I just thought how great God's paint brush really is and how truly blessed I am for landing where I am.
How many times has this happened to you? Something before your eyes takes your breath away and leaves you in complete awe…
Honestly, sometimes I miss it when I am so deep in thoughts of what I have to do next or I am on auto pilot. It made me wonder: how much do I miss?
This week I invite you to take it all in around you. If you have to look for those special moments, or just be open to noticing them. Count how many times you are speechless realizing how great life is.
