Recently I’ve had several discussions with many different friends on the topic of asking for what we want – and being open to receive it.

Often we know what we want but we feel like it’s wrong (or too much) to ask for it.  Sometimes our egos kick in and act insulted we should actually have to ask for something to receive it.  After all, they should know what we want and need!  Then there’s the whole guilt trip around receiving blessings!

Some of these feelings may come from childhood.  Kids innately know how to ask for what they want.  One trip to any grocery store with a candy, toy or video game aisle will provide a great example!  Kids are persistent, too.  They have no qualms in letting you know, “Mommy, I want that one, that one Mommy, I want that one… MO-OMMM-MEEEE, I WANT THAT ONE!”  Until the parent, their patience beaten down by the child’s persistence, can’t take it any more and snaps, yelling at their child to “be good!” or “hush!” or even the disrespectful admonishment “SHUT-UP!”  The child’s subconscious mind then equates asking for what they want with being bad.

Many of us also grew up in frugal monetary circumstances and were told things like “we can’t afford that” or “If we get that for you, there won’t be any money left for everyone else” or “don’t be so selfish.”  Enter the guilt trip!

Then there’s the whole people pleasing dichotomy or not feeling worthy or being afraid of being a burden. But those are other topics for another day.  (Or week.  Or month.  Or year!)

Suffice to say there are a lot of reasons we don’t ask for what we want.  But the reality is at some point we must ask for it if we are to manifest it.

It can be kind of scary or awkward at first.  But like anything else, once we practice asking for our heart’s desires, it gets more comfortable and becomes easier to do… even second nature.

Once we ask, we must be open to receiving – preferably without resentment or guilt.

The universe is abundant, there’s enough to go around.  We are allowed to receive as much as anyone else.  In fact, God’s desire for us is to be abundant and to prosper.

We truly have an unlimited God!  (Have you ever tried to count the blades of grass or grains of sand in the world?!)   But we also have egos and fear which impose scarcity thinking on us.  These limiting beliefs can actually block us from receiving the good God has in store for us.  Why would anyone want to consciously block God’s good blessings?

Consciously is the key word.  Most of it is unconscious stemming back to those early established belief patterns that asking for what we want and receiving it has bad repercussions.

Here’s the really good news: We’re adults now.  We set our own rules, our own belief patterns!  No matter what we were taught as kids, or even what we believed five minutes ago, we can open ourselves up to know we are meant to receive the goodness, love, prosperity and other blessings God has in store for us.

Notice I said MEANT to and not just ALLOWED to?  Why block God’s desire to deliver good to us?  Who are we to limit God?  Who are we to reject His gifts for us?  Think of all the joy we can create simply by receiving!

Incidentally, God works through many, many sources… Friends, family, coworkers, bosses, teachers, students, grocery store clerks, doctors, nurses, policemen, the homeless, and even complete strangers.  God works in our homes, media outlets, stores, corporations, governments, educational systems, spiritual organizations, groups, clubs, and especially in nature.  His ways are unlimited.  All we need do is “ask and ye [we] shall receive.”

Asking with gratitude and the faith and emotion that our prayers will be answered helps tremendously!  So does receiving with great joy and appreciation.   And in fact, these positive emotions bless not only those receiving but also those giving.

Ask and then receive.  That’s how it’s meant to be.  ;-)

PS - Thanks to all of you for answering my prayers and requests to share your feedback about SFPNN!   I wasn’t sure I should I ask at first, but I’m glad I did!  I can’t wait to share everything with you tomorrow!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, Prosperity, and MUCH GRATITUDE…

Rev. Jeanette

A little pro-active positive programming can go a long way in creating our heart’s desires.  All of our thoughts have energy.  Energy attracts like energy.  Think about your desires for today. What would you like to experience in the next 24 hours?   Allow yourself to see it manifesting in your mind’s eye and feel it happening in your body so the energy of your thoughts and emotions draws it to you. Another thing I found….a way talented writer from Scotland that you are gonna wanna check out!

I am all about sharing so here is one of my favorite writings from The Wayfarer Tales…

The Black Sheep

This one's for all the "black sheep" out there.

Jimmy Wilson was a shepherd all his life. A year before he died I met him and was delighted to spend some time listening to stories about his life.

Winter on the Scottish hills can be pretty harsh. When the snow came, quite often everything would grind to a halt. It would have to be really bad though before Jimmy couldn't get out onto the hills to bring his flock in. And sometimes it was!

After a night listening to his roof beams creak as the snow piled up, Jimmy opened his downstairs windows - and the snow fell in.

He dug his way out and set off with his dog to see what had become of his sheep. Hopefully, they had stayed still and not done anything stupid while the snow piled up around them. Maybe they had huddled together for warmth.

Other farm workers joined Jimmy and they scoured the hillsides, searching. But it seemed an impossible task.

The morning was almost over when Jimmy spotted two little black marks on the dazzling white snow. They could have been stones, but they weren't - they were ears, black woolly ears!

Jimmy and his friends had been walking above the heads of the sheep they were looking for. One little black lamb had moved to higher ground as the snow rose. When there was nowhere higher to go it just stood there until the snow that had covered the rest of the flock rose above its knees, higher than its tummy, up to its neck, stopping just short of its ears!

He lifted the lamb out then they went to work digging out the rest of the herd. By nightfall they had rescued close on two hundred sheep, saving all bar one that had fallen into a stream.

If they hadn't got them out by dark another night in the snow would certainly have killed them all. As it was they had only survived that long because of their wool. It kept them warm and provided a pocket of air around them to breath.

Two little black ears stopped Jimmy and his mates from walking on by to search elsewhere. If those ears had been white, like they usually are, Jimmy would never have seen them against the snow and he would have kept on walking.

If you are a "black sheep" or if you know one, remember, it's a gift that just hasn't had its time yet. One day, some time, the thing that makes you different will be exactly what's needed.

If you liked that you’ll wanna see what else this talented writer has shared on his new MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/wayfarerstales

While you are there check out the video he has up too.  It is the song You Raise Me Up sung by Josh Groban.  It is simply beautiful and inspiring and symbolically represents (at least to me) dancing with God.

Until next time,

Purim - A
day of Joy and Unity

-- Thanks to Frieda of Jerusalem for sharing this explanation of the Purim Holy Day from A Daily Dose of Kindness.

The holiday of Purim will occur this year on Thursday night, March 20.

Some 2,500 years ago in Babylon, Haman, minister to the king, planned to murder the Jews en masse. In response, they gathered together in repentance and prayer. Miraculously, the plan backfired and the Jewish People lived on, while Haman and his conspirators did not.

JOY - Purim teaches us that the secret to joyous living is to appreciate that life’s struggles are really opportunities to better ourselves. When we view our challenges this way, we begin to accept life instead of fighting it, growing through life instead of simply going through life.

UNITY - We give gifts of food on Purim to acknowledge that each individual that crosses our path is unique and special. By accepting one another with tolerance and respect, and extending to others, we lift ourselves beyond our own boundaries and unite as a People.

Among the observances of the day are:

1. Sending gifts of food to friends (mishloach manot)

2. Gifts of charity

3. A festive meal

4. The public reading of the Megilah - which tells the story of how Queen Esther sacrificed her life to save the Jewish people -- on both Purim Eve and Purim Day.

5. There is a common custom for children (and some adults) to wear costumes

[During the holiday of Purim,] it is better for a person to give more Matanot LeEvyonim (gifts to the poor) than to expand his Purim meal or give Mishloach Manot (food gifts) to friends.

For there is no greater and glorified joy than to gladden the heart of the poor, and the heart of the orphans, widows and converts, for a person who gladdens [their hearts] is like the Divine Presence… (Rambam, Hilchot Megilah, chapter 2, paragraph 17:).

WALKING FOR MIND, BODY AND SOUL

Los Angeles, CA -- Local hypnotherapist Rosalba Fontanez will be hosting a “walk with intention” through Griffith Park on Wednesdays and Fridays during March at 10:00 am.  The walk will begin at the Merry Go-Round and continue through footpaths, for about 30 to 45 minutes.  Participants will be encouraged to walk at their own pace.

Like most health care practitioners, Fontanez believes that stagnation and a sedentary lifestyle will slowly degrade one‘s quality of life, but movement--such as walking--creates a shift in that energy.  It offers an easy way to relieve stress, increase brain power, and improves one’s mood and overall health.

Fontanez created these walks after contemplating how she could better serve the community.  To “walk with intention” refers to making a conscious awareness to nourish and heal oneself through very easy exercise.  She feels the peaceful setting of Griffith Park allows a deeper connection to the spiritual side of life and invites anyone who is ready to ready to make that change.

Fontanez will conduct a short introduction on how these walks serve to enhance peace and healing--first in the individual and then in the world--while sharing the intention of creating more peace personally in one’s life and, by extension, the rest of the planet. This is an opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals and feed one’s health.

Emotional and spiritual healing are two areas Fontanez has focused on since her graduation with honors from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute in 2005.  Her practice employs traditional hypnotherapy techniques but also branches out to more esoteric modalities, dependent on her clients’ needs.  She has assisted clients in successfully overcoming a variety of issues, from anxiety and phobias to stress management and smoking cessation.

7.      Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The California Dreamer

SOUL LESSONS OF AGING

"There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them."  -- Denis Waitley

I am regrouping from a very mentally as well as physically exhausting week.

I went to Tampa, Florida, to be with my Father while he had his hip replaced. He and I have grown quite close in the last 2 years since we reunited after a long period of not communicating.  It has been almost a year since we last saw each other.

We planned to have a few days prior to his hospital stay for some quality time together. We did enjoy this time. We shared many funny stories and happy memories.

However, there were several things I was not prepared for mentally or emotionally.

His spouse has Alzheimer's Disease. I knew she had some memory problems but was not aware of, or in no way prepared for, the true nature of her limitations. This broke my heart as I have known her for 30 years.  It was sad to see that by all outside appearances she is not the woman she once was.  I was also not prepared to be her caregiver as well as spend 8-10 hours a day at the hospital with my Father.

The surgery went well and my Father will make a full recovery with lots of effort on his part.  As we had planned, I left him in a medical rehab center.  It made me sad to see the people who were left there so much worse off than my Father.  Needless to say I had a reality check.

After pulling myself together emotionally and a couple of good nights’ sleep, I have accepted the reality of the situation and decided to help my Father the best I can from across the country.  He and I had a very serious phone conversation and he has accepted the fact that he needs to take care of himself and can no longer be everything to his spouse. I am going to contact several social service agencies to get my Father help with her as well.

What I learned from this experience is that we all get older, and with age, often become frail.  Aging is a natural process and the best we can do is take good care of ourselves and remember that we aren't superman or woman and ask for help. We all have limitations to what we have control over in our lives.

I can't change my Father’s situation, but I will give him all the support I can to help him improve his life.  In this process, I also will learn new avenues of help that are available to all of us.

My Father thanked me over and over for taking the time to be with him and how much it meant to him to have me there.  However, I am the one who is grateful.  The lessons I learned are priceless and will carry over with me for the rest of my life.

I am grateful to have been of service and to continue to be of service to him.  These were soul lessons and now I give back from my heart.
