Howdy Folks and Good Day!

I’d like to continue our treasure hunt today, but let’s look specifically for buried treasure this time.

What do I mean by buried treasure?  You tell me!

Maybe it’s a dream that got buried underneath the to-do list or years of sacrificing for others.

Or perhaps it’s a sense of Self that got covered up while trying to take care of family, friends and co-workers or an attempt to live up to others’ expectations.

The buried treasure could be a part of you that hasn’t been allowed to come out and play for a while… like your inner singer, musician, magician, dreamer, dancer, world adventurer, knitter, artist, basket-ball player, or any other aspect that’s gotten pushed under.

The buried treasure might be your Authentic Voice or walking in your own power.

Or maybe the buried treasure we’re looking for today is in others.

While many of us try to be true to ourselves, people often see us for the roles we play.  We become known by our job-description or appearance instead of who we are at our core.

When we look beyond the surface, and go deeper and deeper, we find a treasure in each and every person!  Even those we don’t like at face value have some good redeeming qualities within them at the core of who they are.

Can you imagine how different the world would be if every person on the planet went around looking for the good in others instead of judging one another?

Judgment is natural in humans; it’s a part of our ego that was created for survival…is that person safe or will they kill me?  Natural too is observation without judgment.  Instead of projecting our fears and preferences at others, we can merely observe them for who they are.

We don’t have to get into whether we like them or not.  We don’t have to decide whether they match our expectations of how people “should be.”   We can simply go beyond the surface structures and look into their core.  What’s in their heart?  What treasures can we dig up from within them?

Every single one of us has redeeming graces and buried treasure.  Let’s find them today and celebrate!  The resulting love and joy are priceless!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

1.      What kind of day will today be?

The kind of day we make it!

A little pro-active positive programming can go a long way in creating our heart’s desires.  All of our thoughts have energy.  Energy attracts like energy.  Think about your desires for today. What would you like to experience in the next 24 hours?   Allow yourself to see it manifesting in your mind’s eye and feel it happening in your body so the energy of your thoughts and emotions draws it to you. Affirm it on the lines below!

Today, I desire and experience…

Barefoot and Beautiful

A few years ago a friend picked me up and we went for a ride.  The first thing I did was kick off my sandals and place my bare feet on his dashboard and said, “Isn’t that the cutest thing you have ever seen?”

His response: What?

My response: My cute lil’ toe ring of course!

It took a little prodding, my dance of, “Dude, just look at it.  See how little and perfect it is?  It shines so lovely and bright.  And my toes, to die for.  Painted all pretty in pink.”

And he was hooked and joined the party of how great he was and all of the great things he had to offer and we had a grand ole time going back and forth.

Until he said, “Dude, you can’t just go around saying things like that.”

And I was a bit hurt because we were harming no one, just playing amongst ourselves.

I said: Why not?  It’s true.

His response: I know.  But you just can’t do that.  People won’t understand.  And anyway, your toe ring is just cubic zirconia.

And so I dimmed my light a little once more but softly said, “Just you wait, dude.  One day my little toe ring will have real diamonds, and I think people will like what they see because it’s gonna make them feel good about themselves too.”

Fast forward to my life these days. . . In a car for a ride with another friend.  A female friend.  We were stopped waiting for the road to clear to enter traffic and I was zoned out.  All of a sudden she excitedly exclaims, “Do you see that dude?!”

Coming back to the present moment I said, “What?”

Her response, “A stretched limo just passed in front of us!  Hey guys!  We are over here!  We are over here!!”

My response, “Don’t worry dude, they are just swinging back around to come and pick us up.”

Here’s the deal people…We are all beautiful and unique.  And it is time to start feeling good about ourselves.

I am not speaking of physical beauty.  I am talking about our hearts and our light and our gifts.

I am beautiful.  And I own it.

And I am even beautiful on my butt-ugly days too when my light is turned on.  That’s how I know it is all about love, and spirit and feeling good about ourselves.

There is no competition.  There is room for everyone.

Be beautiful.  See and acknowledge the beauty in others.  Don’t dim your light.  That helps no one.

Barefoot and beautiful.  Walk gently.  Walk loud.  Just walk out letting your light shine.  Because then others will shine too.

Until next time,

Lisa

Haku everyone,

If you've been wanting to join one of our super-great nature hikes and haven't had the time yet, here's your chance. We have a nature hike scheduled for Saturday, May 10, starting at 10 a.m.

This is also a great idea for a Mother's Day gift - you'll impress her by showing that you're expanding your horizons, getting some education, exercising and enjoying nature all at once - everything that a Mom wants for her children.

RSVP - let us know to reserve a spot for you for this weekend's hike. Remember that the price of the hike includes admission to the museum that day also. $10 per adult (16+) and $5 per child (6-14). We have some fantastic new displays in the museum - most notably an extensive Native American basket collection and our new California golden eagle display.

Also, be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming 2-day Pow Wow, scheduled for May 17 and 18. Check the website for more details - we hope you can make it.

7.      Wednesday WORD — by Diane, The California Dreamer

BEING PRESENT

"Right action has a way of always happening when we allow it." — DMK

You might recall that in March, I went to Florida for a week to stay with my Dad and his spouse when he had his hip replaced. (See my article from March 19, 2007 for details.)  I got a dose of Real Life that week I had not been expecting. When I left my Dad in March I made a promise to come back to check on him and to spend quality time together when he was feeling better.

Wow -- what a difference six weeks can make.  I am happy to say that my Dad is six weeks post op and doing wonderfully.  He has had a terrific recovery and is walking most of the time without assistance or even using a cane.

When he picked me up at the airport, I could immediately tell he was 110% better.  He was standing tall at the waiting area when I got off the tram, I could see that he was like a new man.  He was cheerful and looked great, his face didn't have grimace lines of pain.  He was excited about seeing me and showing me the progress he has made.

I must say that I needed the break from my hectic fast paced lifestyle.  I also needed to be assured he was ok.  Within the first 24 hours I could tell I was going to have a bit of a withdrawal from the fast-paced life I left back in LA.

Dad is retired and isn't in much of a hurry to do anything. My small still voice kept repeating over and over to me that I was getting a lesson in being "Present."  Within 48 hours, I noticed I had relaxed and was becoming quite used to the easy going lifestyle my Dad has.

I also noticed we were having meaningful conversations.  We were able to even discuss those all-so-necessary-but-I-don't-want-to-talk-about-them topics.  My Dad discussed his last wishes with me; I was open and assured him I would follow those wishes.  We were able to go to an attorney to put his affairs in order with ease.

We went to the beach and spent a wonderful afternoon one day. We also went back to watch a sunset on my last evening there, just being present with each other.

His wife isn't much better with her Alzheimer's, however, I noticed my tolerance was much better and I was present for her also. I was able to take her out of the house and give my Dad a break from being her care-giver.

I was able again to witness the love he shares with his wife and how much he cares for her in everything he does for her.  He showed me by his example what I now believe true love is.  He was just doing what he has done for her for several years now.  He was just being himself.  I had not seen that part of him as a child with my Mother (his first wife).

As for the Alzheimer's issues with his current wife, we were able to check into the resources available in his community and get that ball rolling.

Being able to unwind and allow made all the difference in my visit.  I was able to leave knowing that without me being close, right action is taking place.  All is well with my Dad and he will be fine as his recovery continues.
