Howdy Folks and Good Day!
To all the Moms, Grandmas, Foster
Parents, Pet Parents, and anyone whose been there to love, care and nurture
someone, Happy Mother’s Day!
For some, Mother’s Day is a whole lot of fun! Breakfast in bed or out at the Buffet, getting showered with crayon colored pictures, maybe a flower or two… For others, the day can be kind of painful for various reasons. I encourage everyone, Mom or not, male or female, to make the day about love and nurturing, both for yourself and others.
And if you’re one of the many folks who grew up in a dysfunctional family (which is pretty probable as the last statistics I saw stated up to 80% of all families in the US alone are dysfunctional) give yourself – and your parents – a pat on the back for just being who you are.
When I was in high school my Mom told me, “You know, I’ve gotten older in years but I still feel like the me I was in high school. There’s a part of you that will learn new things and grow and mature, but there’s also a very deep part of you who will always be a kid.”
It’s one of the best things my Mom ever confided to me. Because the reality is that most folks who have kids are still kids themselves. There’s no certification or licensing process to have kids. You’re not required to take Parenting 101 through Advanced Grand-parenting 999 in order to raise a family. You just do it. Sometimes you do it right. And other times you just do what you know how, which accounts for most child rearing.
Let’s face it. None of us is perfect. If we were, we’d be up there with Jesus, Buddah and all the other “ascended Masters.” Seeing as we’re here on Earth, we’ve got some learning to do – including how to parent ourselves, and kids, if we have any.
For all the people who are still upset that your folks didn’t parent you correctly, take a look at how you are parenting yourself today. Are you being a good Mom to yourself? Are you giving yourself all the things you thought your Mom should? Are you treating yourself the way you thought your Mom should? Are you being a good Dad to yourself and treating yourself and providing for yourself the way you thought your Dad should?
There comes a point when we must take responsibility for our lives no matter what our parents did or didn’t do. In many places around the world, the law says that point is at age 18. How old are you today? How are you doing at taking care of you?
No matter what happened growing up, your mother and father gave you the opportunity to live on this planet. A planet with sunrises and sunsets, beautiful sea shores, fluffy white clouds, chocolate, ice-cream, flowers, grass, trees, really cool animals, birds, and fish, awesome people, and unlimited possibilities to manifest and create. That sounds like a pretty cool deal to me.
So take a moment to tell your Mother thank you. No matter what else she did or didn’t do, she gave you the gift of life. Now that’s something to be grateful for.
And for you Moms who wonder about your kids and might not have the greatest relationship with them, just keep loving them. Let them know you love them even if you disagree with them. Acknowledge who they are even if they are not like you – or even if they are just like you!
Folks, life is too short to let things get in the way of our important relationships. Make this Mother’s Day (and Father’s Day) and really every day count. Don’t wait for someone else to make the first move. If you have to make dozens of first moves over and over again, do it. It’s YOUR life. It’s YOUR heart. It’s YOUR responsibility to love those you care about and let them know it. It’s YOUR responsibility to forgive, to say thank you, to let them know they mean something to you – even if you do so from a distance or have to set boundaries.
Let each day be an opportunity for love and spiritual growth in your relationships. Be the kind of parent to yourself you wish you had. Whatever has happened in the past is in the past. (Even if that past is an hour ago, it’s still the past!) If you want a different tomorrow, you must create it today, right here, right now. Let Love be your guide.
With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…
Rev. Jeanette

MOTHERS KNOW…
One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me and my brother who is four years older than I am. I was maybe 3 ½ years old and had just recovered from an accident in which my arm had been broken among other injuries.
Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys. Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news and my brother was playing nearby in the living room when I brought Daddy a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Mom came home. My Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!!'
My Mom waited, and sure enough, here I come down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy and she watches him drink it up, then she says to him…
'Did it ever occur to you that the only place that baby can reach to get water is the toilet??'
.....Mothers know!!

For a Good Laugh, Check out
It started so simple, so innocently… Tom fulfilled a promise to write the stories he said he would tell. A man, two dogs and a forlorn tree… Who could have known it would turn into the intriguing series known as "The Christmas Tree Chronicles." Don't be fooled by the name, these twisted tales take you year round!
It doesn't stop there, though.

Kindness Suggestion
WHAT MIGHT WE
GIVE ANOTHER IN SIXTY SECONDS?
By Ellie
Braun-Haley
Resentment for the errors done by others, anger at life and injustices, rage over unseen wrongs, these are the human emotions and reactions, which destroy relationships, eat at every part of our own being and hinder laughter and healing.
Forgiveness, compassion, understanding, tenderness and mercy -- these are the human strengths, which can mend the tears and set us free to move forward.
May we remember to let out the hostility and invite in the
forgiveness, that we too can be freed from the bonds of acrimony. And may we
ceaselessly remember the words of Christ on the cross, “Father, forgive them,
for they know not what they do.”
It is within each of
us to dispel the dark shadows, some of which we may have cast. It is within
each of us to bring more joy into the lives of others. We have the ability. We
need only make the choice to be positive, kind and forgiving.
For those who live in darkness, let all who have light,
share it. We each are filled with talents and the light of God. If we let out
the light, to share with others, our individual light will grow all the
brighter. The more we give, the more we receive.
What might we give another individual in sixty seconds of our time?
We can close our eyes and focus on sending out love and healing energy.
We can utilize our voices with encouraging words offered in a gentle fashion.
Our touch can be gentle, tender and filled with caring.
Our eyes can speak volumes as they mirror thoughts of goodness and mercy.
In sixty seconds we have the ability to restore trust and
calm to a troubled spirit. We hold within us the stuff which holds hope
together. We need only choose to share the goodness within.
Hugs, Ellie

TAKE THE SFPNN KINDNESS CHALLENGE!
Living through the words of Gandhi, we must be the change we want to see in the world. We must also acknowledge those who are in the act of creating those changes. Therefore, we have two challenges for you.
Kindness Challenge # 1: Do something kind today and every day. It doesn’t have to be of earth-shattering proportions to make a positive difference. Simply saying “Thank You” or letting someone know they’re appreciated can have a tremendous impact. Find little ways to be kind and to make our world a kinder place. And feel free to tell us about your kind act!
E-mail: “KINDNESS”
Kindness Challenge # 2: Share something kind someone has done for you! People are kind to us in a myriad of ways on a daily basis. But we often overlook their kindness. Become aware of acts of kindness and acknowledge the person performing them. Then share their kind gesture with SFPNN.
E-mail: “KINDNESS”

TAKE A STAND --
FREE LEMONADE STAND

---Proverb
The habit of giving only enhances
the desire to give.
--- Walt Whitman
Kindness in words creates
confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving
creates love.
---Lao-Tzu
And of course…
When life gives you lemons make lemonade. ---Unknown (maybe Sunkist)
Which is exactly what Take A Stand is all
about, making lemonade. This is
the 5th annual Take A
Stand. If you have any children in
your life or the lives of those you know, I hope you will take a look at this
fun opportunity for kids to learn about and practice giving back to the
community by raising funds for their favorite charity.
Last year Sunkist gave 15,000 lemonade stands to kids for this purpose and this year they plan to give 20,000 lemonade stands for “thoughtful kids eager to make a difference”. Besides learning about giving they get to learn about running a business, marketing, money and have fun. (You don’t have to tell them all the neat things they’re going to learn, they’ll figure that out for themselves after they are finished.)
I hope you will give the children you know a chance to feel all the great emotions that we feel when we give to others, especially when we do more than just write a check.
