Howdy Folks and Good Day!

Yesterday’s suggestion for A Season of Nonviolence was about caring.  It’s pretty easy to say we care.  We care about our loved ones, our pets, our friends, our co-workers, our school and spiritual community, our neighbors, and even about people we see on TV.  And we probably care about ourselves, too.

But sometimes we get too scared to care.  We may fear having our heart broken, getting taken advantage of, getting hurt, or even that we’re being selfish if we take care of ourselves.

It can be really difficult to let ourselves fully care if our trust has been broken in the past… Whether that’s trust in others, trust in God, or trust in ourselves.

Yet human beings are meant to care – and to trust.

Granted, there are times we should use caution.  If we tune into our intuition and use common sense, we are generally guided and forewarned when caution is necessary.

Most times, it really is OK to care… for others and for ourselves.  And on every level!  Afterall, God cares about us, and He created us in His image.  That means we’re designed to care just like God does.  If we block out our feelings of caring, we go against our true nature and feel conflicted.  But when we allow ourselves to really care, to feel the intensity and joy of the feelings of caring, we experience a great sense of purpose, well-being and connection.  We’re more likely to both give and receive help as needed.  And we’ll feel more at peace in our hearts and minds.

Dare to care… for your Self, God, and others – including animals and our environment.   And see what a difference we can make in the world.

If you’re not sure where to begin as far as making a difference, use the links at the end of this issue of SFPNN or visit http://www.thehungersite.com.

Or give yourself permission for a little pampering today.  You’re worth it!

With Peace, Love, Happiness, Health, and Prosperity…

Rev. Jeanette

NOT SO VERY DIFFERENT

My friends Jim and Laura are in their seventies and sixties respectively, so when it came time to paint the exterior of their house before winter set in they decided to get a young man to do the job. He was busy so they got me J

Having a chat before yet another bout of painting Jim talked about a recent fight he had with one of the “superbugs.” “It could have been worse,” Laura said. “It could have been MRSA.”

Well, Laura didn’t know it but MRSA was what took my dad away at the age of 65. I told them about his heroic struggle and ultimate defeat. I talked about the man he was and the effect his loss had had on our family. Perhaps surprisingly, the effects weren’t all negative. We had to come together to help each other through the grief and the family became stronger for that. I’m sure Dad would have approved.

But his loss meant I was the “man” of the family.

There had been a couple of family crises since then. I’d been involved and they’d turned out okay. How they might have been resolved if Dad had been here is anybody’s guess. We are/were very different men.

All of this was going through my mind while I was painting. Jim came out to see how it was going.

“What’s that you’re doing?” He pointed to the door I was painting.

“Oh, well. I do the door in six inch vertical strips. I slap the paint on and then I take long, slow strokes from the top to the bottom. That smoothes out the thicker patches of paint, prevents runs and takes away the brush marks. Then I do the next strip and blend them in together.”

“Good stuff,” he said. “Where’d you learn that?”

“My …” The words caught in my throat as I realized what I was saying. “My dad taught me that.”

I remembered him holding my hand as he showed me how to do those long strokes. How many other aspects of my life and my behavior would I be able to trace back to Dad if I looked hard enough?

Maybe we weren’t such different men after all. I thought that was a good thing – and I hope he thinks so too!

4.  GOOD NEWS from SFPNNers!

PRAYER REALLY WORKS

Shortly after my husband’s mom passed away, my mom was given a grim prognosis of end-stage inflammatory breast cancer last August.  The odds seemed stacked against her.  But Mom has an unshakeable faith and is determined to beat it.

We immediately began praying.  Not only was Mom put on my prayer list, but several friends and family members added Mom to their lists, too.  She’s being prayed for by individuals, churches, the World Wide Reiki Group and, I’m told, even Mother Teresa’s prayer group!

She was doing really well until about a month ago when we her white blood cell count dropped dangerously low – and stayed there for several weeks.  We increased our prayers.

Mom called last night to let me know she’s doing fine, just had her last round of chemo and is scheduled for surgery on February 23rd!  The prayers worked – and are still working.

Mom’s excited that she’s finished Phase 1 of her 3 part treatment.  She KNOWS she’s going to make it through stronger and even better before.

This won’t be the first time Mom has experienced a miraculous healing in her life, either.  Several years ago she had a tumor on her thyroid the size of a baseball.  In the process of removing it, the doctor cut her vocal chords and told Mom she’d never talk again.  She had other plans.  Through prayer and determination, Mom’s speaking just fine these days!

6.  Vicarious Travel — With Patty

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Rocky Mountain National Park is located in north-central Colorado in the U.S. It features majestic mountain views, a variety of wildlife, varied climates and environments, from wooded forests to mountain tundra, back-country trails and campsites. The park is located northwest of Boulder, Colorado in the Rockies, and includes the Continental Divide and the headwaters of the Colorado River.

I have visited this beautiful and spectacular setting a few times, mostly driving up Trail Ridge Road to marvel at the views from 12,000 feet.  I wanted to share a few special photos . . .  (Use the link below to view.)
