The dream is not impossible

Our thoughts and words and the thoughts and words of those around us are powerful. They have a strong influence on us.

It has been said "do not constantly tell a child she is clumsy or she shall become so" and "do not tell a lad he is stupid for he will become convinced it is so and therefore apply himself no more." We are all greatly affected by conditions around us, and as I mentioned, by thoughts and words directed at us and by our own thoughts and perceptions (views/insights).

A golfer visualizes his putt traveling toward the cup and dropping in. This practice putt in his mind is powerful and will aid him in getting the weight (force) correct and the direction accurate. It may be the slight slope which keeps his ball from dropping, though if he notices it, he will also take this into consideration.

Visualization, our mental pictures, can also shape us. When I was working seriously on losing weight I visualized myself at a lighter weight. I also celebrated my weight loss before it had actually happened. I did this because I wanted my body on the same team with me, working with me to make it so. When I use the word celebrate it was not merely a celebration in my mind, I literally caused endorphins to increase by the excitement I generated.

We bring about so much by our own energy, by our own thoughts. Often we are armed to protect ourselves and do not utilize the tools available to us.

Many of us have felt uncomfortable in a room as we sense the negativity of another and if we knew how we would guard ourselves against this bombardment. If we but visualize a protective shield surrounding us the negativity will be unable to reach us.

Encouraging our children to dream, to aim for reachable goals is a huge step in achieving them. We need to do the same for ourselves. Talk about our expectations for ourselves. Dream about the aspiration, visualize achieving it and celebrate it long before it has taken place. All we think and do has the power to help bring about the dream.
