“The Present” is another of Spencer Johnson’s short stories that teach us great life lessons. Like any story, some people get a lot out of it, and others just don’t get it.
Johnson focuses on the life of a young man trying to get the most out of life, as many of us are. He is searching for “The Present” that is the best present anyone can receive, according to his friend, the great old man. This present can only be found by oneself, so the young man goes on a search for it. After many unsuccessful years, he finally discovers it, and gets all the joy he has hoped for.
Hopefully, you will discover your own present while reading “The Present”. It is not something anyone else can give you, it is something you must find for yourself, and be ready for it. This is definitely a book I will read again, take notes, and reflect on how I can use the lessons taught. I have begun to use some of the principals taught, but old habits die hard sometimes. Change is not easy, but doesn’t start until we are willing to do something. All the best to you on your journey.
