Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Ellen Burstyn, See more
Director: Callie Khouri

I saw a movie about a year ago that has recently been on HBO.  The movie is "Divine Secrets of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood."  The first time I went to see it, I thought it was depressing and was not very enthusiastic about it.  Maybe it was just my own frame of mind then.  However, I've watched it about 3 more times on HBO.  The 2nd time I saw it, the light came on and I finally got it.

The story revolves around a mother and daughter who have conflicts.  Some of it stems from the abusive behavior the mother showed when she was going through some mental / drug problems.  A lot of it stemmed from the daughter not knowing all about these problems.  And still, a lot more of it stemmed from the daughter only remembering the bad times and blocking out the good times.

Friends of the mother kidnap the daughter when things get bad and keep her in a house in the backwoods of Louisiana.  They are the Ya Ya's, and they want to help their dear friend, the girl’s mother who is also a Ya Ya, as well as the daughter.  It takes time, lots of story telling and lots of remembering for the daughter to put things in the proper perspective.

I dearly recommend this movie and will try to remember the lesson in it to dwell on the good and let go of the bad.  Watch it, learn from it, enjoy it and be moved by it.
