AMY’S DIVINE SENSE OF HUMOR
by Linda Leach Johannessen

When my daughter Amy was first being treated for leukemia, she was a high school senior and attended a local catholic high school.  Mother Therese came to visit her convent in the city and a Mass was being celebrated in her honor.  The catholic schools in the diocese were sending students from each school as part of a delegation to the Mass and Amy was chosen as a participant.  Although Amy had been admitted to the hospital, she was given a medical pass from her doctor to attend and was instructed to come right back afterwards.

To make a long story short, Amy met and was blessed by Mother Therese!

When she returned to the hospital Amy was almost a celebrity.  Everyone wanted to touch her, because she had been touched and blessed by the dear Sister.  Even the newspapers were calling about the "sick girl" with a bald head and found us at the hospital!

That evening Amy was sitting in her bed when the nurse came in to collect a urine specimen.   As the nurse was walking away, Amy gave her a side glance and casually said..."be careful with that, it's holy water."

Two years later Amy relapsed.  We were sitting in the doctor's office, waiting to discuss the next step.  Amy was browsing through a magazine when she came across a picture of Mother Therese.

She showed it to me, sighed and said..."Well, I guess Mother Therese's blessing only comes with a 2 year warranty."

I couldn't help but laugh, even though it was a very sad day.  Amy just had a magnificent sense of humor.
