As I embark on this challenge to help create a PNN Travel Page, I can’t help but feel this opportunity was created just for me and came knocking on my door at the right time.

After a long marriage, raising two wonderful sons, and a subsequent divorce, I find that I am happy and thankful for the blessings in my life.  I attribute my spiritual journey as the foundation and then meeting Dave, who is loving, caring, and attentive, as the key to maintaining my “life is good” attitude.

I was born and raised in Chicago and still live here. I have a job that I love and that is the first thing I tell people when they ask me what I do.  I work in the Editorial Office for a scientific journal at a national research laboratory in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.  I had previously submitted a story for Fuzzy Tales on 10/9/07 that described the beautiful white deer that roam the grounds where I work and how they inspire and lift my spirits.  In addition to my travel stories, you can read my other work at Patty's Penned Thoughts.

One of my hobbies is genealogy.  I traced my family tree back to the 1600’s and because I felt so strongly about the role our ancestors play in our lives, I wanted to share their story and my research.  I created a website and have over 10,000 names in my database.

The culmination of my hard work truly hit home when Dave took me to New York and we visited Ellis Island.   My paternal grandparent’s names had been inscribed on the Wall of Honor after I found the date they immigrated to the U.S.  There are no words to describe the goose bumps as they covered my entire body and my eyes filled with tears, when I touched their names on the wall, especially since I had never met them.

Dave and I travel quite often and have visited fabulous, magical places.  I hope to bring some of that magic to these pages with photos, suggestions and tips and to share stories of people and places that we have been fortunate to meet and visit.  Our country is beautiful.  People are intriguing.  The world is fascinating.

Of course, we ask for your input as well.  Together we can offer helpful advice, entertaining stories and fabulous pictures to our fellow travelers for vicarious travel adventures.  So pack your virtual suitcase, grab your e-ticket, hop onboard and let’s have fun!

We also encourage you to send in a photo of your hometown (or state) and what you like about it. Let's try to get a sampling from all 50 states!  I have started things out with my own hometown of Chicago.

Vicarious traveling doesn't cost a cent.  In addition to preparing us for our real travels, it also connects us with the one thing that makes traveling so special - other people and places.

Send your photos and stories to:  Patty with "for Vicarious Travel" in the subject line.

SFPNN Vicarious Travels - Atlanta

ATLANTA

Atlanta is known for its heat in the summer, but the hot temperatures are well worth the beautiful sunsets and evening breezes.

There's plenty to do in Atlanta from sports to the arts, from dancing and dining to enjoying the great outdoors in its many parks and natural works of wonder.
