TRANSFORMING SELF-TALK

"The most influential person who will talk to you all day is you, so you should be very careful about what you say to you!"

Zig Ziglar

Read that quote again, give it some thought...

The infamous "they" say that if you talked to a friend the way you talk to yourself you wouldn't be friends very long.

What kind of things have you already said to yourself today?

Have you told yourself you're not smart enough? Good enough? Pretty or handsome enough?  Tall or short enough? Too big or too small? You want to do what?! You don't possibly think you can do that do you?

What limitations do you tell yourself about yourself?

"The most influential person who will talk to you all day is you, so you should be very careful about what you say to you!"

Zig Ziglar

I couldn't help but to let this quote sink in.  Just thinking about some of the things I say to myself is enough to wear me out.  And I certainly wouldn't talk to any of my friends the way I talk to myself sometimes.

With that said, I have to also say that since I am becoming more awake and aware of my life, I don't usually talk to my self as bad as I used to. When I do catch myself in some form of negative self talk I change it to a positive.

Notice I said usually.  I have made an effort to turn those types of thoughts around.  Through practice and patience most days I do succeed.

With all the possible thoughts that run through your head everyday, what kind of thoughts do you want to fill your head with?

It isn't conceded to praise ourselves or to compliment ourselves. It should come natural to all of us to recognize all of our positive aspects and accomplishments easily.  But why do we have such a hard time doing it?

Make a promise to yourself this week that when you start to speak negatively about yourself you’ll turn it around and make it a positive comment.

It will take a bit of awareness to notice when you do it.  Most of our self talk is just chatter in our mind.  When you notice that negative comment, immediately turn it around, put a positive spin on that thought.  After a few hundred times of trying, you'll get it right and the positive will become as natural as the negative!

Here's to a positive week.
