Ways to Eat a Mango :
A Discovered Journal of Life
on an Island of Miracles |
Tuesdays
with Morrie:
An Old Man, a Young Man
and the Last Great Lesson |
|
An
allegorical tale of a botanist who travels to a tropical island for the purpose of installing a mango cannery for
a multinational corporation. But his plans go awry when he meets an enigmatic Buddha-like character whose pearls
of wisdom turn the scientist's life upside down.
An
enchanting story about one man's discovery of life's elusive secrets, SEVENTEEN WAYS TO EAT A MANGO inspires us to
embrace the magic in our own lives... |
This
true story about the love between a spiritual mentor and his pupil... reminds us of the affection and gratitude
that many of us still feel for the significant mentors of our past... We are privy to intimate moments of Morrie's
final days as he lies dying from a terminal illness. Even on his deathbed, this twinkling-eyed mensch manages to
teach us all about living robustly and fully. Kudos to author and acclaimed sports columnist Mitch Albom for
telling this universally touching story with such grace and humility. |

Barry, the only newsman to win a Pulitzer for exemplary use of words like booger, will please humor and

"The
truth is that if you take a little time to learn a few basic principles and some of the technical lingo, buying
the right computer and getting it to work properly is no more complicated than building a nuclear reactor from
wristwatch parts in a darkened room using only your teeth. So let's get started!" |
Nobody
has ever produced a better snapshot of the Baggage Carousel, "where passengers traditionally gather at the
end of a flight to spend several relaxing hours watching the arrival of luggage from some other flight,
which comes randomly spurting out of a mysterious troll-infested tunnel that is apparently connected to another
airport, possibly in a different dimension." |

Book Review by Sharon Palmer
All of the stories in this book (Stories For The Extreme Teen's Heart) are incredible, and make you think,
bring a tear to your eye, or both. You're left with a deep-down warm feeling that is more than comforting -- it
makes you want to go out and do something nice for someone so you can keep that feeling going. I wrote one of the
stories (on pp. 61-62), and am humbled to have my story included in such a wonderful book with so many brilliant
authors. Thank you, Alice and the "Teen Team," for making that happen!
Blessings, Sharon Palmer

The
text is hilarious, and his illustrations are filled with wonderful sight gags. It may look like a children's book,
but there's enough here to keep the most sophisticated adult chuckling for hours. You might learn something, too. |
Over
20 million Far Side books are in print in the U.S., and the millions of Far Side fans will be clucking over this
Gary Larson collection. Perhaps the world's favorite cartoonist, Larson reaches a level of demented excellence
that delights his readers. |

Modern
Day Knight holds a very special place in my heart. So often we see the stories about kids and people
"gone bad." I have personally known some of the people that would ordinarily be stereo-typed
into this category and have discovered that the majority of "hardened souls" are simply trying to
survive and are too afraid to love... they act out to protect themselves, much like a medieval knight would do
placed in today's threatening environments. I am honored to have Modern Day Knight placed with other work
deserving merit and hope you will enjoy this book, also. |

J.K.

Author
of the entertaining Harry Potter collection |
|

|

|

|
|
Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone |
Harry
Potter and the Chamber of Secrets |
Harry
Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban |
|
In
the nonmagic human world Harry is a nobody, treated like dirt by the aunt and uncle who begrudgingly inherited him
when his parents were killed by the evil Voldemort. But in the world of wizards, small, skinny Harry is famous as
a survivor of the wizard who tried to kill him. He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead,
curiously refined sensibilities, and a host of mysterious powers to remind him that he's quite, yes, altogether
different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley. |
It's
hard to fall in love with an earnest, appealing young hero like Harry Potter and then to watch helplessly as he
steps into terrible danger! And in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the much
anticipated sequel to the award-winning Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, he is in terrible danger indeed.
|
For
most children, summer vacation is something to look forward to. But not for our 13-year-old hero, who's forced to
spend his summers with an aunt, uncle, and cousin who detest him. The third book in J.K. Rowling's Harry
Potter series catapults into action when the young wizard "accidentally" causes the Dursleys'
dreadful visitor Aunt Marge to inflate like a monstrous balloon and drift up to the ceiling. |

Shel

Great

|

|

|
|
Where
the
Sidewalk Ends:
The Poems and Drawings of
Shel Silverstein |
The
Giving Tree |
The
Missing Piece
Meets the Big O |
|
More
than four and a half million copies of Where the Sidewalk Ends have been sold, making it the best-selling
children's poetry book ever... Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once profound
and outrageously funny. |
This
story of a boy who grows to manhood, and of a tree that gives him her bounty through the years, is a moving
parable about the gift of giving and the capacity to love.
|
The
wedge-shaped hero of The Missing Piece waits in vain for the right someone to appear, until a complete circle (the
Big O) shows it how to gather its own momentum. |

Author
of the delightful column, "ValueSpeak," which appears in PNN every Wednesday. |

How
Can You Mend A Broken Spleen? Home Remedies For An Ailing World |
|
In
a series of insightful and humorous vignettes, this book reinforces moral values that all parents want their
children to embrace, such as honesty, courage, tolerance, integrity, hard work and loyalty. Writing from the
viewpoint of a reasonable, middle class husband and father, Walker provides some welcome perspective in a world
that seems to have lost its moral direction. |
