Ask Dr. Joe

--- Back Muscles

********** Question **********

Can you recommend specific exercises to build muscle strength in the

different areas of the back? Chiropractic adjustments help with

RE-alignment, but I've been told I need to increase the muscles in my back

to help keep my back in proper alignment after the adjustment.

********** Answer ***********

Push ups are probably the most effective way to build muscle all around the

spine, front and back. Sit ups build the lower back and abdominals which

then act like a brace to support the low back. There are numerous other

specific exercises for different spinal muscle groups, but these are the

easiest and can be done anywhere without special equipment.

Hope this helps, let me know how else I can help.
