Are you a good listener? Can you lend an ear without lending judgment? Can you hear through the words being spoken into someone’s soul?

Hear with your heart!

When listening to others, we may hear what they say but as we’re taking in their words, we’re also forming opinions and judgments… Not only about what they’re saying, but irrelevant things such as what they’re wearing, how their hair is styled, or whatever else catches our attention in the moment. That’s unfortunate. Because when our ego gets so busy judging things, it completely misses the gifts of the soul each person may offer through their love, wisdom and kindness.

Everyone has a story. And in fact, multiple stories. We’ve all had experiences that made us laugh, and made us cry. We’ve gone through things which have brought us to our knees and those which made us feel like we could fly. We’ve gained our share of insights and lessons learned whether through a traditional education or the school of hard knocks. Every moment of every day adds to our repertoire and the gifts we can share with others.

The key is knowing how to listen, and from there, knowing how to share.

When we listen with our heart, we cast out judgment and usher in compassion… love… empathy… understanding. When we listen with our heart, we suddenly “know” another’s needs, whether that’s a simple word of encouragement, a hug, or a helping hand. When we listen with our heart, we move beyond the surface things the mind judges and connect with another’s soul, their deepest essence. It is in this meeting we are both blessed and guided to act from a higher ground.

Anyone can listen to words and cast judgment on what’s being said and the person speaking. It’s all too easy. Honestly, so is listening with the heart instead of the mind. The heart recognizes truth. It resonates with love. It speaks to us, leads us, and guides us. It sends messages in vibrations and feelings to let us know whether we’re on the right path or not. It tells us when to be open and embracing or when we need to be cautious and protect ourselves. When we hear with the heart regularly, it raises our frequency and draws us to those beings who also listen through the heart’s filter of love and compassion.

The heart has integrity, respect, and courage. The heart shows us who we are and who we can become. It dreams for our soul’s highest good. And it can activate the dreams of another as well as show them they are valued. The heart not only pumps blood through the body, it pumps life and love into our spirit. The heart is wise beyond belief and will guide us with great grace when we invite it to.

It’s time to stop listening with only our ears. It’s time to stop seeing with only our eyes. It’s time to tune into the soul.

And hear with your heart.
