LISTEN TO THE BODY. OBEY IT
INSTEAD OF TRYING TO
Do you have chronic areas of pain, discomfort and fatigue? Do you struggle with certain issues, going from doctor to doctor to no avail? Are you tired of trying to heal your body and just wish it would be normal?
LISTEN to the body. Obey it instead of trying to heal it.
Seeing the body as sick or in need of healing may actually block its ability to heal because we’re creating an expectation of ill-health. If we see the body as healed and ask what it needs when we notice something doesn’t feel right, our intuition is more likely to receive the message our body (or mind or spirit) is trying to convey. Seeing ourselves as healthy gives the signal to create more health. And the body is designed to do just that. It has its very own healing, cleansing, digesting, relaxation, building, and strengthening systems and more. It has the ability to detect, repair and heal – when given what it needs.
Most everyone struggles with some form of discomfort whether mental, emotional, spiritual or physical. Billion dollar industries exist to heal (or conceal) our pain. And yet, millions of people are still trying to heal their body, mind, and spirit without very good results.
Perhaps the poor progress is the culmination of years of if-then programming. If you have a headache, then take an aspirin. If you have chronic pain, then take a stronger medication or have a surgery. If you have these emotional symptoms then you must take those pills and practice that particular regimen. The medical and scientific communities have done a wonderful job of classifying ailments and symptoms for ease of recognition and diagnosis. However, teaching individuals to tune and listen to their own body, mind and spirit has been highly neglected.
Pain, whether in the form of dull aches, soreness, tenderness, inflammation, throbbing, numbness, cravings, chronic fatigue, tension, discomfort, dis-ease or anything in between, is the body’s way of communicating with us, trying to have its needs met. Every body speaks its own language and it’s up to each of us to learn our own body’s vocabulary and interactive dialogue.
Pain could mean, “I’m tired. I need more sleep.” It could also mean: I’m dehydrated, I need water. I can’t process what you just fed me. I’m allergic to that. I have too much Candida yeast. I have too many toxins in my system. (Salt, sugar, caffeine, and alcohol, oh my!) I need to stretch. I must get some vigorous physical activity to increase blood flow. I can’t take any more of the negative thoughts you’ve been generating. What you said about yourself and others is going against your true nature. There’s too much worry and anxiety in your mind. The shoes and belt you’re wearing are too tight. I’m getting too many EMFs (electro-magnetic frequencies) from the computer and TV. I’m missing some important vitamins and minerals. I need quiet time. I need play time. I need more protein – or less protein. I need carbohydrates… Or vegetables, fruit, or meat. My glucose levels are out of whack. Please sit up straight. Adjust the height of your chair so I don’t have to strain my hips, back, arms, shoulders and neck. You’re off your chosen path. You’re pushing me too hard. You need to let go of the thing that’s troubling you. There’s some forgiveness to be done. I need more spiritual energy. I’m missing a sense of connection with God. I need you to love me.
The above are just a few examples of what our bodies try to tell us! Medical professionals may be able to point us in the right direction, but it is the body which lets us know whether something is working or not. Doctors, or anyone else in the healing profession, are not the ones who heal us. The body, in coordination with its infinite wisdom and its Creator, is ultimately the one to initiate or allow the healing to take place. It almost always has everything it needs within if we will just listen to what it’s telling us.
Our call to action is to tune in and find out what our body’s needs are. In the beginning, it may not be as obvious as we’d like, and we may find there are a multitude of requirements. Learning as much as we can about how the body works, both in medical terms and according to our own interaction with it, is important in comprehending its requests. The more we understand what the body needs, and doesn’t need, the more we are able to interpret its messages, and the easier it will become to listen and obey it. And to create better health.
Doctors can certainly help educate us, but in the end, it is our own body which will teach us the most.
Listen to the body. Obey it instead of trying to heal it.
