PITCH THE PAST
Are grudges and resentments holding you down or do your heart and spirit soar? Do you feel stuck in a rut or are you moving forward with your life? Are willing to release that which no longer serves you?
Pitch the past and leave the garbage in the trash!
How often do we focus on all the bad things which have happened to us in the past? We’ve all met people who are anxious to “share” their past woes with us… be it childhood abuses, a betrayal in some relationship, or being wronged in some way by someone else. We’ve maybe even done the same to others. Now how often do we focus on the good things which are happening in the present moment?
When something gets old and moldy in the refrigerator, it’s obvious it’s no longer good fuel for our bodies. It gets rancid, smells bad, and looks bad. It’s just plain yucky. We would never dream of saving something old and moldy for future usage. But that’s exactly what we do with many of our past experiences – especially the bad ones. We hold onto them like a badge of honor and then complain about how rotten they are. What we really need to do is throw all those rotten memories away and allow the dump-truck of life to haul them off and compost them into fertilizer.
Imagine how much better the world would be if instead of spreading our trash around, we dished out all the good things people are doing right now!
Yet we’re reluctant to let go of what happened and to embrace the present moment. Perhaps that’s because we’re afraid of being hurt again or of having to relearn the lessons. Maybe we don’t know what the future holds so it scares us and makes us uncomfortable. Or our reluctance could simply stem from being under the ego’s grip, preferring to defer blame onto past circumstances rather than take responsibility for our present lives.
It is in the present moment where all power resides!
We’ve all had bad things happen to us. We’ve all experienced our share of misfortune and heart aches. We’ve all been through some awful times. Yes, we’ve seen the worst in life -- and it stunk just like yesterday’s rotten trash!
Yet we’re still here in this very moment, blessed to be alive!
In this moment we choose whether to give our power away, or to give all the garbage away. In this moment, we can either re-create and re-live the wounds of yesteryear (or even yesterday) or we can create a brand new and improved experience right here, right now. In this moment, we can release the burdens which weighed us down and revel in the wisdom of lessons learned. In this very moment, we are free to construct the life of our dreams if we dare to do so.
C’mon! Pitch the past and leave the garbage in the trash where it belongs!
