YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE NOT A TRASH CAN
(Treat it as Sacred.)
How do you see yourself? How would you view your body if you looked in the mirror – naked? How do you treat your body? Are you gracious, kind and supportive? Or do you abuse your body and throw a lot of garbage at it?
Your body is a temple – not a trash can. Treat it as sacred.
Viewing the body as a temple is not a new concept. Yet how many of us truly treat our bodies as sacred? Do we recognize the magnitude of miracles our bodies require to function properly each and every day? Or do we focus on this ache, that pain, the little bulge here, the extra bump there?
Too often we take our bodies for granted or treat them like a trash can. We get upset at the extra pounds our bodies put on but don’t pay attention to the signals it sends to let us know it can’t process the type of food we’re eating. Or how the stressful job is taking its toll. Or how those self-defeating thoughts are causing both physical and emotional pain.
Our bodies really are our temple. They house our soul, our connection to our Creator. Our bodies not only allow us to communicate with ourselves and each other, but also with the Divine. Our bodies help us experience life on Earth. Our bodies teach us, help us grow, help us move about freely. Our bodies buffer us from lower energies, and protect us from the elements. They are finely tuned instruments which come to life in ways we can’t even explain. Our bodies are sacred. We must treat them as such.
Our bodies need tender loving care. They require a high-quality healthful diet, appropriate for our individual needs. Our bodies need to move, to stretch, to exercise in a way which honors them and us. Our bodies need rest and play time. And they must be recognized as the divine gift they are.
We often think nothing of investing money in cars, houses and entertainment but deny ourselves when comes to the care of our bodies. We don’t hesitate when it comes to dumping a burger or soda pop into our delicate digestive tracts but tell ourselves it costs too much to buy organic or to get that crate of Clementine oranges in the middle of winter. Like any temple which gets neglected, our bodies wear down when not cared for properly; and then we blame them for not meeting our needs. In reality it is we who are not meeting our bodies’ needs.
Yet our bodies are faithful and continue to lovingly communicate their requests.
What is your body trying to tell you? Is it acknowledging your tender loving care, or letting you know it’s been pumped full of garbage it can no longer process? Does your body move with grace and ease as divine energy flows through it? Or is it calling for your attention, asking you to remove all the gunk and improve the quality of its treatment?
Your body is a temple, not a trash can. Please treat it as sacred.
