Sir Froggie’s Pondering
Ancient Amphibious Wisdom for a Modern Day World

LOOK FOR THE OPENING!

Does life seem difficult or easy?  Do you feel like you’re knocking your head against wood or do things just flow?  Do you believe when one door closes another opens?

Look for the opening!

Recently a small woodpecker visited the plastic bird feeder at our home. The tube-shaped feeder is fairly large with eight openings and perches where our avian friends can indulge in pre-shelled sunflower chips.  This little woodpecker was in for a real treat compared to its usual diet!

He found the perches then attempted to partake of the provisions. However, being a woodpecker, he was in the habit of trying to poke through wooden walls of trees in order to get his meal.  Despite having an opening right in front of him where food was easily accessible, he unsuccessfully pecked harder and harder at the sturdy plastic wall of the feeder.  Realizing he could not break through that durable side, he tried another perch. And once again, proceeded to peck away at the non-penetrable walls, all the while an opening was right before him.

That little woodpecker was quite determined and persisted in the pursuit of his meal for almost twenty minutes, attempting at least six of the eight available perches… all to no avail despite his best efforts.  This indomitable little bird tried everything he knew how to do, everything he was used to doing.  He was so close to his goal, yet he couldn’t break through the walls!

Fortunately a few house finches who frequent the feeder stopped in for their afternoon snack.   Watching the finches go to pre-existing openings the little woodpecker discovered, with much gusto, how easy it was to obtain an instant feast!

How often are we like that little woodpecker, doing everything we’re used to doing, yet never quite reaching our goals because we’ve hit a wall?  We may persist until we completely wear ourselves down, all the while knowing there must be an easier way.  And often there is; we need simply to step back and look for the opening.

Life has so many opportunities to feast on its bountiful gifts and joyful experiences.  They may be right in front of us, or we may have to look to find them. Sometimes we may even need others to show us the way.  But rest assured the openings are there.

Perhaps the most important opening is to the Divine working in our lives.  Knowing God is the Source of all that is, everything and everyone becomes a channel, an opening for the Infinite to work with.  Finding the opening creates wonderful doors to walk through, wonderful windows of opportunity to let the Light in.  Instead of staying stuck pecking away at an indestructible wall, finding the opening moves us forward in prosperity and abundance in all areas of life… And allows us to help others along the way!

There is always abundance of some kind.  Prosperity is ours to the degree in which we open ourselves to allow it in… Whether it’s an abundance of friends, family, meaningful relationships, money, job selections, knowledge or anything else doesn’t matter as long as we’re open to it.  Opening ourselves to receive may require changing some learned behaviors and thinking patterns but it will be well worth our effort and process of discovery.

The current of life is designed to flow with grace and ease…Yet just like water, wind, and energy, it works best when it is constructively directed.  Sometimes the direction is straight and narrow through one specific opening.  More often than not there are multiple openings we can choose from.  It doesn’t matter if it’s in relationships, careers, finances, education, spirituality or anything else.  There are always openings, always places we can best direct our energy, awareness and abilities in constructive, free flowing ways.

There’s no need to go up against brick--or even plastic--walls to have our needs met and reach our goals.  There is an opening somewhere and it’s up to us to find it and move through it, both within ourselves and in our external circumstances.

Look for the opening!
