"For the most part, what I will be writing about is based on real-life experience, much of it mine. I was almost born with the proverbial silver spoon in my mouth, but my father's parents took the spoon away when he married a German peasant lady from a small village against their wishes."
We went from middle class to so dirt poor that I picked oranges and harvested swamp moss in Florida. Later, I picked green beans and collected wild plants to sell in Tennessee. I escaped by joining the army and gradually worked my way back to an economically stable life for myself and my children.
Along the way I picked up a few skills and became a fairly good money manager. It all started rather innocently with my first real house as an adult... My mate had absolutely no aptitude for fixing anything so I took on the roles of amateur plumber, electrician, carpenter, gardener, auto mechanic and computer technician. When it became apparent that both of my children had some rather severe learning disabilities, I had to add the gift of patience to everything else that I had learned.
Having dropped-out in the ninth grade, I now feel that all children need to graduate from high-school. A lot of what I know is self-taught, but it took a G.E.D. test and some additional college to convince the world that I was more than a dropout.
As far as formal training goes, I have about two years of college and extensive training from the military, mostly electronics and medical. I was also trained as a master gardener two years ago and did most of my associated volunteer work with Downs Syndrome children. My favorite way of learning has always been by reading and trying out what I have learned.
